Pattaya karaoke worker claims police officers abducted and gang-raped her

She claims she was 'arrested' and that the men took her to what they described as a 'safe house' close to the Night Bazaar.

A karaoke bar worker has filed a report at Pattaya police station claiming she was abducted, extorted money and finally gang-raped after being arrested by officers in Thepprasit Road on Wednesday.

Named only as ‘A’, to protect her identity, the twenty-six year old Kalasin native made a statement claiming that, as she was eating in Thepprasit Soi 8 on Wednesday afternoon, she was approached by a uniformed officer who was accompanied by two men wearing civilian clothes on a second motor-bike.

She claims she was ‘arrested’ and that the men took her to what they described as a ‘safe house’ close to the Night Bazaar. Once there the men told her she would have to pay 20,000 baht to be allowed to leave, she said.

When asked what the charges against her were she received no reply. After telling the men she had no money they took her, she claims, to a small hotel and asked again for money. This time 5000 baht. Again she explained that she did not have money.

She says she was then held down and violently gang-raped by the men who then stole her ATM card. She was finally allowed to leave the following morning. (Thursday)

From there she went directly to the government watchdog department, Damrongtham, followed by the Pattaya Police Station, to make her complaint and report the crime.

Investigating officers have announced they have been to the scene of the alleged crime and confirmed that one of the suspects is a serving police officer.

Investigators say they are committed to finding out ‘the truth of the matter.’
