'Net Zero' is not an economic ambition, it is entirely ideological.

It bears comparison with China's collectivisation of farms in the 1950s. At least in that case it started with a somewhat logical effort to improve farming yields so that the countryside could feed the growing numbers of urban workers. It was considered a success at first. Of course they piled ideology upon ideology and it spiralled into a nightmare with an estimated 30 million people starving to death.
Net zero has no beneficial economic outcomes. It is pure ideology and this is where it lines up with collectivisation. Who did well out of the chaos? The ruling elite. Those peasants who didn't die became evn more subservient to their communist masters, the Party were able to tighten control over the masses.
Don't imagine even for a moment that Milliband and the rest of them don't know the history of communism.
