    The Apocalypse

Definitely in the genre of 'scare mongering' but also an interesting read.
News - Doomsday clock remains at 3 minutes to midnight - The Weather Network
Wednesday, January 27, 2016, 6:21 PM - For the second year in a row , the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists has kept humanity's doomsday clock at three minutes to midnight, largely due to climate change.

“That decision is not good news but an expression of dismay that world leaders continue to fail to focus their efforts and the world’s attention on reducing the extreme danger posed by nuclear weapons and climate change,” the group said in a statement.

Prior to 2015, the clock has been sitting at 5 minutes to midnight.

    WHAT IS THE DOOMSDAY CLOCK?

The doomsday clock was created nearly 70 years ago. It serves as a metaphor, representing how close humanity is to a civilization-ending catastrophe.

Each year, the twenty board members of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists convene to assess the biggest threats to humanity.

Last year, the ongoing threat of climate change and nuclear weapons were among the largest threats, a trend that continued into 2016.

The closest the Doomsday Clock has ever been to midnight was in 1953, when the first tests on the hydrogen bomb were conducted.

That was enough to push the time forward to 11:58 p.m.

The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists says we may be able to avoid disaster if humanity:

What say you? Is this the beginning of the end? The greatest threat at the moment in my mind is Israel or N.Korea letting of a nuke in a moment of dim witted rage.

The greatest [and historic] threat derives from the Anglo-American community.

Perhaps, we always seem to make a bad situation worse. Better to keep out noses clean and all that.

Actually, the greatest danger to mankind is none of those things but is of course stupidity, in its many forms.

However, the notion that we are on the cusp of Armageddon is really nothing more than a hangover from the days of Cold War propaganda when it served many interests to terrorise folk into accepting events, doctrines and ideologies in circumstances they wouldn't otherwise usually entertain.

Still, it is quite amusing that nuclear conflict and the weather have been linked as equal threats to humanity. Instead of retaliating to a nuclear strike with similar devices perhaps we could simply seed some clouds and make them very wet instead.

    Einstein wasn't wrong, was he?

resistance to antibiotics and/or the surprise spread of a plague like malady such as ebola presents by far the greatest danger to humanity.

as for the imaginary and much exaggerated threat of climate change in causing a civilisation ending catastrophe, well, the seemingly unstoppable spread of islam will end civilisation long before the next ice age/ heatwave/ heavy shower ever will.

I would say the biggest nuclear threat is Pakistan, closely followed by India.

Ebola virus will not destroy humanity - it's far, far too devastating to spread since it kills its host too quickly. Antibiotics didn't exist before 1941 but that still didn't prevent the spread of civilisation.

No, I think stupidity is far more likely since its presence is tolerated everywhere and permeates every facet of human activity.
Just look at what its done to Wales. No one there has a proper job, they speak unintelligibly and rely totally upon the rest of the country for its economic livelihood. if the benefit tap were turned off they would start to eat their babies and extinction would be sure to follow.

Not that keen on Islam, but don't really see it as a threat. They are too busy fighting among each other. Islam will cut its own wrists long before it presents the coming of the Apocalypse

that the stupid could bring about their own extinction is an appealing thought, but with their propensity for fathering multiple offspring, their ability to portray their character defects as disabilities and themselves as victims goes a long way to ensuring that todays liberal societies will always be hostage to their manipulations.

Nonsense, it merely means many will have smaller heads. The Welsh have managed for years.

To keep it short and sweet, I believe none of these doomsday prophecies and scenario's.
The number that have come and gone during my modest lifespan of 55 years, I can't bother counting.

There are theories that the term Apocalypse is surely misinterpreted as a confined definition has been embedded.

Perhaps, this note of ending refers to a new beginning, not the "end of".

    Cycles that we don't understand.

Well nature better find a way of thinning the human species real quick or the rest of the species are fucked.
I'd hate to be any other blooded species having to share the planet with the humans.
