Brilliant new medical procedure and I was there.

Yesterday I met up with some friends and was invited to join a meeting at one of the guys apartment in Pattaya.

The friend, who is a registered G.P in Australia has been working on a new medical procedure and is now recognized as 1 of only 2 doctors down under that perform it and with quite amazing results.

The procedure has a lot to do with stem cell growth and what I witnessed over the course of around 1 1/2 hours was absolutely amazing.

The medical procedure proceeded until climax and as follows:

    1. An American military chap of around 45 years of age arrived and there was some brief consultation about his condition. Both of his ankles were damaged and swollen after years of paramilitary training and he cited that parachute jumps and upon landing as causing the most damage to his ankles. He also tore a ligament in his right ankle about 10 days ago and he was clearly in extreme pain and could hardly walk 10 slow paces without having to take the weight off his ankles. Arthritis in both ankles had also set in and his career was at an end unless he could get something done.

    2. The procedure was briefly discussed and he was informed about the success rates, the risks and the pain he had to endure if he went ahead with the process.

    3. He quickly decided to give it a go and the doctor started to prepare his makeshift surgery.

    4. He produced what I thought was a rice cooker which was a centrifuge to separate blood and plasma. He also produced a large tool box full of medical gear and heaps of different size syringes.

    5. The first stage of the process was to remove 5 vials of blood from the patient into 5 glass vials and they were placed in the centrifuge unit.

    6. He was then prepped for local anesthesia first on his left ankle. The doctor found the sorest spot on the ankle and drew a diagram with a marking pen.

    7. After about 30 minutes the anesthesia was applied and 2 vials were removed from the centrifuge unit and the plasma was extracted from the blood with a large syringe.

    8. The patient was then placed on the dining table and the doctor manipulated the left ankle with his fingers finding the cap between the ankle joints.

    9. Firstly an empty syringe needle was inserted deep into the ankle joint gap and quite a lot of clear fluid (not blood) was drawn out into the syringe which the doctor claimed was one of the main problems and which was causing the pain and swelling.

    10. This huge syringe filled with the plasma was then inserted into the gap and luckily he did not hit any bones during the insertion. The plasma was then injected and job done.

    11. The same procedure was then carried out on the other ankle including injecting plasma randomly into the torn ligament area. This procedure caused the patient a lot of pain but he gritted his teeth and endured.

    12. End of procedure and the patient then headed off for his birthday party in Chantaburi.

The procedure is relatively unknown and can be used to solve problems with most joints. I asked him about problems my wife has with her spine and lower back and he warned he had only attempted 2 spine procedures but he needed an ultrasound to locate the problem area and maneuver the syringe needle around the nerves and other important parts.

The procedure is known as "PRP" or Plasma Rich Platelets and the doctor claimed at least 85% success rates with most people recovering painless quality of life.

Without going into detail he explained that when the plasma is injected the platelets explode activating the instantaneous growth of stem cells which bond with the damaged area initiating regrowth of healthy cells.

So all you guys and girls out there who suffer chronic joint pain which is affecting your quality of life then there may be a solution for you.

I reiterate that this procedure was performed in my mates apartment and on his dining room table and took no more than 1 1/2 hours.
