    Beetlenut
In P.N.G it is the single largest commodity that is traded on intercoastal ship lines.
It is chewed raw by 90% of the P.N.G. population, causes reddening of the gums and teeth, and is a mild opiate.
many companies allow it to be used whilst staff are working.
I know the Lutheran Shipping did, and they shipped tonnes of the stuff all over P.N.G.

It tastes "nutty" on its own, slightly bitter and pungent.

The chew you can flavour with spices, to some extent, it is a 'hot', strong pungent taste which takes some getting used to.

Maybe they have different types, I do know that in PNG they had that effect on the people.
Now I'm no chemist or anthropologist, but that was my observation, and also what was explained to me by others.

I never tried the stuff, nor an opiate so I'm no expert.

Staying in line with the thread, ran over a dog today, and it really pissed me off.
New car, just picked up my number plates and this stupid mongrel has caused damage that will take 7-10 days to repair, after the parts arrive. Figure a month of having to ride my Honda 125, 50km each way to work.
And to cap it off the f#cker limped away, still alive.

today i guess everything will piss me off, as i am going to quit smoking.

i seem to have got away without having a hangover this morning so thats a good start.

as a special treat for myself i had marmite on toast and also one of these little Brands berry essence things.

I used to grow the nut (areca) on a commercial basis (very small scale). The kernel of the nut itself has very little flavor. But, when you add the betel (pepper) leaf and lime paste you get a very astringent and bitter combination. I guess that's why in some cultures a variety of flavorings are added including sugar syrup and various spices. Tobacco is sometimes added to the chew.

The alkaloids in the nut, which are activated by the lime, saliva and pepper leaf, constitute a mildly euphoric stimulant. I always likened it to one beer and six cups of coffee.

i had a bacon and egg sanger! much better.

wot pissed my orf is that the 2nd floor bathroom has been leaking water through the ceiling in the living room.

I rang to get it fixed thursday, a numpty came out looked at it and said broken pipe in the wall.

no shit sherlock - fix it will ya?

friday they decided they'll fix it Monday - no - i need it fixed now.

so we arrange them to arrive 8.00am - cos i'm going out later to watch the rugby.

8.00am I get a call - what time do i want them to come over. NOW I says, oh umm ok the technicians will be there at 9.00

9.15 i get a call - the technicians will be there after lunch

Not good enough i said come now! the water is dripping through an electric light. the ceiling has a metre wet patch around the light - i dont want it collapsing in.

anyway - they said they'll call back in 10 mins.....

    hmmmmmmmmm.

    waiting.

which means you get all warm and sweat and need to spit buckets of saliva.... and get mild headspins.

    as a follow up.

they called back (after 45 mins) - technicians will be there in an hour.

they did come, they looked at it and went "Ooooh"

I suppose thats a bit of a warning sign.

Then they asked me if I had a step ladder? WTF ? Didn't they come prepared? silly me! They arrived on a motorcycle. 2 technicians one motorcyc - I guess not much room for tools to do the job.

anyways, they poked around abit, asked me to sign a report sayign they had seen it and they'll check with the owner again .....

    and left.

Big fffuuuuccccckkkiiiinnggggg hangover !!!! still drunk. Horrible.

Thank god I passed out in that expensive short time hotel for a few hours. At least I got a bit of rest in a nice bed.

Still being drunk from the night before at 11am is definitely not a good sign for the rest of the day

I spent three hours this afternoon fixing mistakes made by the cretin we hired to do the kitchen in the new house.

I hate doing it myself. That's why I hired someone.

    Damn....

And, another night alone. That pisses me off too.

I had actually planned to go to the Irish Pub tonight. But the kitchen repair labors wore me out so that I fear it's another evening on the front porch with 20 baht beers.

(I haven't forgotten your PM. Still working up my thoughts and a reply.)
