Brad Pitt in The Devil's Own, 1997

Tom Cruise as ‘Joseph Donnelly’ – Far And Away (1992)

Sean Connery as ‘Jim Malone’ – The Untouchables (1987

Brad Pitt as ‘Rory Devaney’ – The Devil’s Own (1997)

Brad Pitt as ‘Mickey O’Neil’ – Snatch (2000)

Julia Roberts as ‘Mary Reilly’ – Mary Reilly (1996)

Tommy Lee Jones as ‘Ryan Gaerity’ – Blown Away (1994)

Kevin Spacey as ‘Michael Lynch’ – Ordinary Decent Criminal (2000)

Piers Brosnan as ‘Taffin’ – Taffin (1988)

But by far the worst Irish accent ever to grace the silver screen fell from the beer-soaked lips of an authentic Irishman. Dear Piers Brosnan, there's just no excuse for this monstrosity!

Brad Pitt in The Devil's Own, 1997

Hey!!! Come on now. OK I didn't grow up in Belfast, but i felt that Brad Pitt did a great job of the Northern accent. Sure, Tom Cruise was just cringe-worthy and John Wayne was utter shite. I remember when they were shooting 'the Devil's Own' in NYC and Brad and Harrison Ford forced a re-write of the script half-way through. Ok - mega stars can get away with it but they felt the movie was going to be a clunker and put their collective foot down.

As a footnote, Julia Roberts' singing in the Michael Collins movie was fooking awful, but i could forgive her for being hot looking. Yes, I'm shallow - deal with it...

The Bono accent has actually become quite fashionable...there's a guy they wheel out practically every night on BBC World Service. Can't recall the name - something of a social commentator/comedian sort...

Took long enough...You'd have to understand that Dubliners pronounce "thick" same as "tick". Very un-pc of me. Now i'll never be Mayor of New York...
