I posted a while ago asking if posters had a plan B, an escape route if the country becomes too difficult to sustain you and yours.
What would you take advantage of before you depart, if you decided enough was enough. Are there certain things here you would want to take advantage of before you left for good?

If I had to go back home I'd get myself a tan first.
When relatives visit they always ask me why I'm so white. I tell them I'm not a tourist so don't need a tan to show off to people back home. Besides, I stay out of the sun because it's so fuckin' hot.

Making friends with a jet driver or private pilot would be good. Passport, credit cards & cash. Things are replaceable .... you .... not so easy.

This broad question only really applies to loners and wannabes without real familiar ties, irons in the fire, real friends, associations, etc.....

Thankfully, I never had to burn any bridges back in the UK. Still got a house, old friends and family. A plan B / exit strategy is always a necessity if you're residing in a 3rd World fiefdom / kleptocracy like Thailand, no matter how much fun you can have here.

A good last meal, a few beers and some karaoke. And perhaps a kilo or two of good Thai jasmine rice to take back with me.

I would just drive the 50kms or so to the Laos border and wait for it to go tits up there.

I'd drink a cartoon of dark beer Lao and get completely lathered.

No Dark Beer Lao in Perth.

But realistically, I'd just leave all my shit here, jump on a plane, fly home and pick up where I left off.

I'm in the hole here for 4K AUD tops. Absolutely nothing.

That's why I'm very content with my lot, I'm not locked into anything anywhere and will continue to go with the flow.

No, it's more a case of, how much more of this shit am I prepared to tolerate. The reasons for coming here and staying are now six years old.
While I have been amazed by Thai resilience to civil disobedience, political turmoil, floods and a military coup, it just seems to be a country in limbo, with no direction or common sense.
The Junta comes up with new head shaking in disbelief ideas every day. Immigration offices make shit up as they see fit and there is no credible justice or politcal system, or any sign of one this century.
I would be happy to start a road journey without taking a deep breath and crossing my fingers for luck.
I guess my main point is whether you came here for the pussy, the cheap cost of living, the temples or the stunning scenery, sooner or later it all seems to tip the balance of life. Not sure if I'm ready for a well ordered society yet, but it would be foolish to ignore the changes.

You know Chas, I'm concerned with none of those things above. They do not affect my day to day living here.

I just do my own thing and care not about the Political system or any of the dumb shit the Thia's do.

Not my problem, I just grab the good bits and run with that.

Fuk all the other stuff.

That said, I would never ever consider working here or being committed here, fuk that for a joke but as a retiree its great.

Exactly. It's always a good idea to "go home" at least once year for a perspective-check, or pop the "reset" button and just to keep in touch with what's going on. Invariably, we come back to Thailand with a bit of fresh perspective, despite it's myriad of dysfunctional traits.
In the UK at least, "well-ordered" seems to mean state interference in one's personal life to a rather chronic level these days.

After my next trip home in April I'm knocking it on the head and only going back once a year only.

Perth is a great city but boring as fuk compared to Asia.

Always held the same opinion.

Walk a few Km over the mountains to Kampuchea. It's like Thailand 20 years ago I'm told by the locals.

Same lifestyle available there.

My next choice would be to just rent a gaff in Bali, plenty of nice spots away from the tourists and 3 hours away from home.

No brainer really, many options besides Thailand for me even though Thailand is top of the list.

Malaysia also, find a nice spot there no problems.
