    Thailand does not celebrate Christmas

    5. Thailand

November to February is Thailand’s 'cool' period when the humidity drops, making it an ideal winter sun destination, and it also has the added bonus of being Christmas-free. Whether you fancy Phuket, Krabi or somewhere quieter, choose your beachside accommodation from world-class resorts to cheap-as-chips basic dwellings.

Christmas free? You're joking! Go shopping in malls and department stores and you'll hear Christmas songs and see Christmas trees and other festive decorations. You can even buy Christmas cards. No, Thailand isn't Christmas free, but, like most things in Thailand, it's not taken seriously.

In my experience, if you get away from tourist spots you can escape Christmas totally.

I spent last Christmas in a small village in deepest Issan and missed it completely.
    Just another day.

    Anywhere can be christmas free.

Simply stock up on 50 years worth of food and water and stay in your cellar.

My kids go to a Catholic school so it's celebrated as a holiday. But not this year. The school had to close for a week earlier in the year due to building work. To make up school time they cancelled the Xmas holiday shutdown. The tossers couldn't even manage to give the 25th as a day off.

Thailand does celebrate Christmas. But, Santa Claus is more important than Jesus.

Annoying Christmas carols sung by chipmunks on helium usually playing at 150dB in most shopping malls here. Wish they would leave it alone.

Is this the wrong thread to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and an enjoyable festive holiday period ?

You crack on mate. Merry fookin christmas to everyone, even the grumpy old fookers.
I just thought the report in the OP rather amusing. While I doubt the immigration officers at Swampy will be wearing antlers or Santa hats, anyone coming here in hope of avoiding Christmas will still be disappointed.
Merry Christmas to my best mates Jeff and Piwinoy. Let's all have a moratorium on faux knowledge and jihad until the new year.

Just remember it's all about the baby cheeses.

When to my local Tesco the other day in Rattanaburi and all the staff were wearing red Christmas hats or maybe it's because of the cold weather

My kids also go to a RC school and they have a Christmas themed play and the days between xmas and NYD are off that's about all. for the locals they seem to ignore it, suits me

Shop til you drop in most countries. Christmas has little to do with JC anywhere.

Santa - What do you want for Christmas Johnny?
Johnny - I want a superduper blow up BJ doll.
Santa - Lucky you. You will find an assortment of colors and genders on aisle 69. Ho, ho, ho. Merry Christmas. Next.

    Far be it from me to commandeer this thread and contribute something to do with KISS but;

Don't forget to mark your calendar; KISS is playing 5 shows in Japan at the end of Feb next year! That's the closest they'll ever get to Bangkok! See you all there I'm sure!

I rather thought the whoopsies in Soi Cowboy and the like sporting their illuminated Santa caps looked quite fetching.

The Thai have erected a giant plastic fir tree outside the Central Festival shopping mall in Pattaya. For reasons not immediately apparent they have also festooned it in Snoopy dolls.

They don't quite have a handle on Xmas yet but any holiday is worth the dosh.

Lots of red noses around the village, maybe the "cold" weather is a clue. Christmas lights on the houses are a year round fixture.

Reminds me of a story I read about a cross cultural faux pas in Japan.
Someone saw in a department store window a big Cross upon which was nailed...
    You guessed it.

The major resorts usually insist on a compulsory Christmas function/show/meal and add it onto your bill.

It's also quite common for bars to leave the new year banners up from Christmas until Songkran.

Thailand has been the last stop on Santas round the world trip for decades. This is where he empties his sacks.
