Why we must make Bali a bogan-free zone

IT IS time to get the bogans out of Bali.Every week, 16,000 rude, lewd Aussies and their badly behaved children head to the Indonesian island of Bali, filling its beaches, bars and hotels.I’ve heard a lot over the years about how rude Australians are while travelling in Asia, and didn’t think it could be that bad.

But I’ve just spent a week in Bali, and was frankly shocked by what I saw.

I hadn’t even stepped off the plane before I saw my first Bali bogan covered in tatts and wearing a Bintang beer singlet. He and his mates got the party started on the plane and cracked open their duty-free Jim Beam in the air.

They were totally paralytic by the time they landed. Bloated and burping, they stumbled into the airport, groping the beautifully dressed women greeting passengers with flower garlands on the way past.

These Bali bogans will spend their holiday bartering in markets for beer coasters, polyester soccer outfits and cotton dresses, enjoying the power play of bartering stall holders down from $10 each to $6 for two. They’ll feel important when they take a 90c taxi ride and tell the driver to keep the change from $1. They’ll talk in temples, ignore signs requesting they don’t take photos, and put tomato sauce on everything.

They’re easy to spot because the dads have lots of tatts, mums have beer guts, and the kids have rat’s tails and corn rows in their hair. It’s no wonder locals feel Bali is in danger of losing its identity in its bid to chase the Aussie tourist dollar.

This is most evident on the streets of Kuta, where bar after bar is packed with Aussies drinking all night long. When bars close in the early hours, they spill noisily into the streets, vomiting in the gutters before passing out on the footpaths. Then they wake up the next day and do it all again. They don’t care that the man paid to clean their vomit earns less than the price of one beer a day.

But the scourge of Kuta is spreading to surrounding areas like Seminyak, where we were staying. At night, we got sick of taxi drivers trying to rip us off and men yelling obscenities at us (“You look moist” and “Wanna F--ky?”). Roadside stalls that used to sell local delicacies now hawk bumper stickers with slogans like “Mark is Gay” or “Pete is Gay”, and “Big Fat Pussy”. Nice. So when will it hit Ubud?[at]Or Nusa Dua?

Of course, the large beachfront resorts where you pay $700 a night for a villa, are oases of calm and quiet in the wider sea of boganry. But who can afford to stay in places like that?In any case, it’s all a mirage, because just a few metres from the fancy resort walls, horizon-edged pools and manicured lawns give way to shacks and rubble where entire extended families live in two cramped rooms.

The real pity is that when you’re a tourist who just wants to take advantage of others, then you miss out on learning anything about the people around you.

There just seems to be no interest in trying to understand what life is like for the Balinese.Do they secretly hate us for turning them all into our servants? What does the man whose jobit is to hang out in the bar toilets and refold the end of the toilet paper into a triangle want out of life? Is he happy?

I spoke to one young lady in a shop who told me she earns 3 million Rupiah a month, which is about $300 dollars. She has a young daughter and she and her husband live with their in-lawsto save money. She doesn’t think they will ever be able to afford their own place.

“My mother-in-law, she makes me uncomfortable,” she said with a sad shake of her head.

How can she reconcile people paying more for a jacket in her shop than she earns in an entire month? The reality is that the Balinese need our Aussie tourist dollars, but it comes at a high price. The wealth that’s pouring into the country isn’t shared, and it’s just forced the majority of workers into low-paying manual service jobs.

This inequality may just be a fact of life in Asian countries, but the problem is that many Aussies have stopped seeing the Balinese as people and instead see them as little more than our servants.I reckon the bogans should just stay home, and clean up their own vomit.

I am not always rude Jim, I'm only rude to some of the Fuk wits on this forum who deserve it.

Anyway regards the Aussie bogans in Bali.

Tis true, some of the fat disgusting fully tatted up trash that gather here is truly frightening and I'm only talking about the Aussie bints.

Thing is Bali is only 3.5 hours away from Perth and around $ 250 return so that means any tosser can come here even wasters on the dole and the scum from lower society who trash public housing back home.

That said, these tossers usually inhabit inner Kuta and spend there time indulging in fukwittery and chaos there. Its a haunt for the young people, they're only doing what young people do and that's partying like fuk.

People that reckon they have never done stupid shit in their youth are poovs and tossers in my opinion. One must party it up when young.

The older Aussies usually just get pissed on Bintang and mind there own business.

But in general the Australians are respectful to the Balinese and treat them well.

We have a long standing relationship with the Balinese and generally like them simply because they are a great people. Many Australians sponsor Balinese Children and help out where they can and employ the Balinese in their businesses.

Yes us Aussies are not a perfect lot but fuk me, we are not that bad either when it comes to respecting the local Balinese.

Easy to shit can the lot of us innit, the silly bint that penned that article is more than likely pissed because her boyfriend left her because she was a silly moaning cow.

Love Bali, its fooking brilliant and also has a very friendly Thai consulate that gives out Triple entry visas.

I suppose racist generalisations are a bit like saying everyone slyamese in esaan is khvnt/saint/evolutionary except you of course.

I actually love it when a fool pens shite like this.

David tells us he has never been to Bali but has it pegged that the place is full of scum who pollute it.

He has never been here so how the fuck would he Know. ??

Its the same as some turd going to Thailand looking for paradise, going straight to pattaya then slagging off Thailand simply because Pattaya is full of Mongering scum.

    Ridiculous innit.

People who actually know and travel far in Bali can go to places where they will hardly see a tourist and one will never see a pissed up Aussie.

Not to that far out of Kuta I know of some blinding beaches and places where stupid package tour Aussies never go or know of.

    Horses for courses innit.

People that make a generalization regards Bali being destroyed are far from the mark.

Many great spots once one gets around.

Would you happily remove thousands of drunk idiotic loud Aussies and deprive the Bali people of millions into their economy.

No doubt thousands depend on these Bogans to survive and feed their families.. same all over the world.

The Spanish, Bulgarians like to bitch on about the savage drunk Brits on the Costa Del Whatever.. But i dount they'd really get rid of them come crunch time.

    Drunk.. yes Loud... yes

But are they murdering and raping people? Nah

    Tis very true this,

After the Bali bombings in 2002 Bali tourism died, the local people where well fuked for a long time.

The tourism industry died, many people where forced to returned to there villages and survived on rice until things picked up again.

Much the same as the Bar girls rely on the mongering scum that inhabit Thailand.

Take these useless tossers away and the girls would be in Financial trouble.

    Same same innit.

On that note, Bali might have a few bogans but what they don't have is horrible mongering scum chonking it up the local woman.

The local girls don't go with mongers, these spankers are serviced by off shore Javanese trollups.

Amazes me this as the AIDS many carry are legendary.

Brilliant, all the shit heads stay in Thailand mongering away up there.

Things musty have changed when I lived in Indo. Most of the guys working with me were on less than $100.

$300 dollars a month is considered good money in Bali.

Off shore laborers digging holes all day on a Bali construction sight receive $7.50 AUD per day.

That's what things are weighed up against.

Hence why the Balinese remain firmly entrenched in the Tourist industry and do not provide labor.

That article is the biggest load of codswallop I've read in ages.
If people are paying $300 for a jacket in Bali then that's an upmarket establishment and she'll be doing all right.
And why is Susie concerned about the owners relationship with her mother in law.?
And why does she mention taxi drivers trying to rip her off as if that's got anything to do with Aussie bogons?
And people go to Bali for a holiday. They're not interested in learning about the Balinese.
I bet Susie wears rastafarian braids and fishermans pants when she's there.
What is an altogether crap article.
