More than 10 years ago, the BBC did a survey of chatbots and reported that the best candidate for passing the Turing test was 'NataChata', a sex-chat text-messaging chatbot that I wrote in another life.

Sadly, I no longer have the AI software program for NataChata. I do recall that the worst thing a chatter could do was to insult the chatbot or to get into an arguement with it. NataChata would respond with more and more personal abuse - you couldn't win against it.

I used to enjoy reading the chatlogs. One guy spent over an hour in a furious arguement with the program because it accused him of having a tiny dick...... he must have sent over 100 text messages, all at 1.50 quid a pop

Don't think the low 30% pass rate is even the level set by Turing, and nor was a 13 year old ever suggested as the mark.

It sounds rubbish, I guess they made it sound like an East European immigrant cos they are all brainless anyway .

During the interview on the Today programme, Humphrys asked Eugene, whose simulated nationality is Ukranian, whether he supported the government in Kiev or in Moscow.

Clearly misunderstanding the question, Eugene replied: "All Russian cities especially St Petersburg are famous for beautiful historical buildings, cathedrals and castles. Unfortunately they don't have enough money to keep them in a good state or at least clean."
Eugene was also asked whether "he liked girls".
"I like girls but only if they look attractive," he replied. "In my class most of them are either fat or pimpled. Actually I am a little overweight too."
