Okay, so I decided on just the standard Bombay gin:

Not to be confused with the sapphire stuff that costs more for the same effect. Bloody good stuff but it was going down too well, as in the Doctor was moaning like hell that a half bottle a day was over limit. Hmmm, a diabetic alcoholic vs a 70+ German Doctor....dialog has been fun in recent years.

I have weakened the gin with extra dry Martini and reduced sugar tonic but to no avail....

... petrol out of the tank or meths is so much better...

That Bombay is a fair gin.

My way off the gin was to add lots of ice fresh lime (some add sugar) for a gin fizz.If sufficient lime cancels the juniper and aromatics, gradually remove the gin level like homopathy ,

Sadly same does not work for the fine wines I can afford to store and buy in Europe but not here,If you add mixer to any good red wine you may as well drink spy

It's great stuff, just with ice.

659b is about £15 so not much more expensive than the UK in fact pretty similar price.

Was told once that American whiskey is cheaper in Ireland than in America, and that Irish whiskey is cheaper in America than Ireland. Fookin' taxes.

No idea if true or not, both of us were mullered. :)

That would depend on the state as they all tax booze differently. My state it is two tiered and terribly expensive. Doesn't stop me from grabbing my favorite tipple.

First tasting of the Spice Rum is only so so. Maybe cause I'm so used to scotch. It tastes a bit... liquorice-y.

Read that ginger ale is a good mixer for Spice Rum. If there's any left, next time will do ice, dash of ginger ale, dash of mineral water and slice of lime. Go full Betty Boo on it. :) Variety is the spice of life.

It's addictive as easy to drink when get a taste for it, I find it hard to leave the bottle alone and go to bed once opened.

In my defence I don't drown a litre of spicy rum every week but if buy one it will only last 2 days. I do try to just stick to wine at home normally but one bottle tends to lead to 3, luckily got a good stacked wine cellar!!!!!

Lol, i've tried stacking a wine cellar and drinks cabinet but it gets drunk too quick.

I get my wine from Virgin normally, pay them 25 quid a month they add a fiver so 30 a month deposited, why I do this have no idea other than for free delivery as normally order 24 bottles at a time for roughly £250 minus whatever accumulated in the account.

In the past I have brought a few bottles of the Teeling Whiskey Small Batch on the right. In Villa on 33/1 it is about 1600 Baht a bottle. I drink it neat and find it smooth with good flavour and a nice after taste.

I figured if the Small Batch was good, the more expensive Single Malt must be better. Drinking it neat, it is a little too sharp and I find the cheaper Small Batch much more pleasant. I think I'll be saving the Single Malt for guests and sticking with the Small Batch as my go to whiskey.

Because I didn't have my usual panic attack with the blood test. Paperwork for China done. Beer with flavour-enjoying it!

Absolutely a no-brainer. I really never get the guys that after hitting say 50 or so that all of sudden they cut back or stop on the things they enjoy so that they might live a few years longer. I can't see the quality of life from say 70 to 80 being noteworthy enough for me to stop what I enjoy doing , eating and drinking now. Of course its all about moderation, physical activity but still.

I know a handful of guys in the states that went to their doctor and got all that horseshit about borderline diabetic, borderline hypertensive, high Cholesterol..blah blah..... They were put on meds and changed their lifestyle to appease a doctor report but when I talk to them they are miserable fuks who complain about what they can't eat, what they can't drink, their junk doesn't work because of the drugs they take etc. All for what....3 or 4 years more???

Now do not get me wrong, becoming a staggering blithering drunkaholic is not a smart choice but man, eat what ya want, drink what ya want and play hard. When its time to go.....Its time go....

I broadly agree, but it is of course also a question of when that time comes. 'Which point between 70 or 80' is of course not always the variable. In the UK an ex-International football player with a taste for the sauce has recently died of a cardiac arrest at 60, for example.

I'm not saying you're wrong...just that the results of our choices can be rather more stark than perhaps we feel comfortable thinking about.

I agree Cyrille. No one knows when their clock will stop but many become gripped by it and alter their lives only to become miserable because of it.

I think another point the article makes is carrying on doing the same things you were doing pre-40 after you pass 40, year upon year until your body just gives up. Even I've mostly (reluctantly) knocked midweek binges on the head now I've hit the big 40, and I'd like to think I'm gonna be down to just the 2 days a week by the time I hit 45. Optimistic, I know... :)

You really don't wanna end up diabetic though. Most doctors will tell you that it's one of the worst long-term diseases to end up with (HIV is seen as a relative picnic given the treatment available).

I've got relatives on my wife's side who can only eat a few grains of rice with veggies, have lost some of their toes and are on the verge of having their cock cut off before blindness sets in. Before 50 years old too.

I hear ya. I get that we are all different and some folks are dealt a sad blow by being saddled with ailments that radically alter ones life. I am one though that firmly believes in euthanasia and I know for sure that if they had to slowly start to cut off my body parts or I had was told that I can only eat 1 of these or 2 of those I would sooner check out. While I cherish life and have lived a GREAT one up to now I am not going to pretend that I would be happy living under radical constraints and be a burden to others.
