German accused of stealing pair of socks from South Pattaya Shopping Mall

A 63 year old German National was accused of stealing a pair of socks from a store inside the Royal Garden Plaza Shopping Mall in South Pattaya on Sunday Night.



Police were called to the location by shop assistants working at a clothing store who accused Mr. Eric Alois Schmidt of stealing a pair of Gap branded socks with a retail value of 290 Baht.

One of the assistants saw Mr. Schmidt enter one of the changing rooms and when he came out he appeared to be wearing the socks and then left the shop without making an attempt to pay for them.

It appears Mr. Schmidt had ripped off a piece of plastic which was used to keep the socks together for display purposes and then attempted to leave. He left the label attached to the socks inside the changing room.

At Pattaya Police Station Mr. Schmidt cooperated with Police during the booking-in process and was happy to sign the charge sheet but refused to comment on the incident when questioned by Police.

The case is now in the hands of the Court to decide how they should deal with Mr. Schmidt.
