You can sense the power trip this little man is on by looking at his swagger and his walk.

He owns that road, and nobody is going to change that!

Fact, a Thai Policeman cannot apply like any other job.
He/She must be 'recommended/sponsored' by someone already in the system.
I have no detail to prove this but have been told so many times this by Thais.

They can apply. As with other government jobs, they must have a s-ponsor.

Price of hiring a s-ponsor varies depending on position and location. Average is around 100k baht for a good job.

These new little cars aimed at dizzy young girls and flaky Thai women drivers, they park by themselves allowing tittering drivers to attend to the more pressing issues of the commute, like applying makeup and texting their friends.
I'm sure the car park attendant and whistle industry must be very concerned about this disturbing new development?

Also there's that guy at the entrance to every shopping mall, who sometimes does that 'glance' inside peoples bags checking for bombs. When he can be arsed of course!

Security Guards outside some Hotels who use a "mirror on wheels" to look under your car for bombs - they have absolutely NO idea what they are looking at and unless they see a large black cylinder with the word "Bomb" in Thai (and large letters) they are totally wasting their time - and more importantly - mine!

I'm no fan of the Thai police force, but the video clip in the OP is misleading. He's shown waving cars along, but at no point does it show him stopping the cars to allow pedestrians to cross the road, which is presumably why he's stationed there. If the video didn't loop back to show the same scene again, but instead showed him helping the people on foot to cross the road, the impression of his job would be entirely different. We all know that 99% of drivers won't stop for pedestrians unless there's a cop stopping them.
The sleep of reason brings forth monsters.

I'm sorry but you have all completely missed the most pointless job in Thailand.

It's the guy who stands at the bottom of the moving walkway and lifts the front of your shopping trolly off the walkway at Makro/Tesco/Big C etc....

An honerable mention should go out to the thousands of men and woman who stand around squeezing their zits/picking their noses at various Centrals/Homepro/Big C's etc all over the country.

    Great work!

They also do a fine job of blocking the lanes and standing in front of the items one needs to look over.

The 'trainee executive' at the door of Makro, who gets into a tizz if he can't stamp the receipt as you walk through the exit door.

The station attendant at most public toilets. they take the three baht and then what? Three baht more for tissues to wipe the arse. Ugh, the smell of ammonia piss and shit centuries old on entrance makes one wonder, What's the three baht for?"

Wash hands? You first! scraping the crust off a newly discovered doughnut in the offering box.

They don't have to be connected to said subject matter [per se]..
Political/social subjectivity and bias is more of a requirement for this chosen field.

Excluding Sabang, as he probably is the most consistently logical and level-headed fellow on TD - be he acting as mod or civilian poster.

Surely the anathema that is the Thai "Foreign Volunteer Tourist Police" must fall into the category of "pointless"?
