If i had to pick one umpire who is well past his sell by date, it's Bucknell. I'm not just saying that because of that one decision, and to be fair to him he's had a good game if we ignore that disputed decision, but i watch a lot of cricket that's being played around the world and he often stands out for making dubious calls. I appreciate it's a tough job to make the decisions that he does in real time, and we can't be too critical when they get decisions wrong, but it is noticeable that he does make a lot of mistakes.

Your fellow countrymen said a similar thing about a certain fast bowler.

just looked at the abc online. england 9/154.
looks like they'll have the chance for more batting, or getting out cheaply that is. mcgrath a five wicket, maybe 6, wicket haul.

    god save our grac......................... howzat!

England all out for an embarrassingly low of 157. Private McGrath gets 6 for 50.

hope they put something in the tea during the break.some sort of pick me up.or get a plastic surgeon to give them a stiff upper lip, just something to make it a contest
bet the gabba management aren't too happy.
how much money in tickets do they lose for a 4 day test?

4 days, was hoping it'd be over today, but seems we have gone out to bat rather than force the follow on, giving old man McGrath a break I presume.

After last year nothing but a complete pasting will suffice.

Oops I got it wrong....It wasn't Bucknell, or even Bucknor..it was the Kiwi fella Bowden.

    Bladdy Kiwis.

So that brings another Australian day to a close. They first bowled England out for a mere 157 runs and then despite leading by 445 runs, decided to bat on. The result - they now lead by a mammoth 626 runs. Well it is going to be interesting to see how long do the Aussies bat because there is ample time left in the match.

    maybe they'll bat till teatime.
keep the tv companies and public happy if the game goes into the second session of the fifth day.
look a bit daft if they fail to win though so i expect them to declare before lunch.

^I fear they may have underestimated the ability of Harmison and Hoggard to bat for two days.....the English team must be laughing

agreed of all the fckn stoopid decisions to make.....

a total of well over 600 to chase in the 4 innings of a test match is not achievable, digging in and blocking every fckn ball for 2 days IS !

why why why not enforce the follow on?

(his excuse is resting his bowlers, but gimmi a break all out for 157 - they hardly broke out a sweat to start with.....was he worried that a lead of 450 odd was not enough even with an innings spare)

i tell ya - ponters has become a great batsmen - but this captain marlaky has got him fucked!

Thanks chaps for all the info on England's staunch defense of the Ashes. I'm up in Korat, so I missed the 'action'.

Will the lucky Aussies match my 10,000 over the series? Probably...

I think that not enforcing the follow on and then going out there and showing them that batting ona crumbling wicket is possible was actually a good move (as long as we clean them up this morning)

agreed.....reinforcing how easy it is to score off that attack, was not only a good plan, but superbly executed, the bowlers didn't get a wicket.

Giles was a poor selection, how Monty changed from being what Fletcher called 'The Best finger spinner in the world' to 'not required', due to availability of a bloke 'who has been injured and not played for a long while' is beyond me.
