well, it wasn't pretty and it wasn't a classic but a win's a win. lewsey proved his worth (again) and tom palmer had a fair debut. for my money, vickery made the difference. how we've missed him. i think he could again be the best tighthead in the world. the difference that hodgson going off made was embarrassing, too.
obviously i'm pleased with any sort of win, but it's nice to rub butch james' nose in it. not a nice man. he tried it on with me once and wouldn't take no for an answer. it got so unpleasant (he wasn't overly concerned about whether or not i was consenting) that i punched him in the mouth. i think he was surprised, but he didn't like either being turned down or being cracked in the gob by a woman. luckily his teammates got hold of him, or i would have had a real problem.
the only pity is that robinson stays. the rfu gossip is that rob andrew is only keeping him on so he has someone to carry the can when we fail miserably in 2007 rwc. andrew is the consummate politician and utterly ruthless. his reward package is £600k p a plus all the bits and pieces that go with it, so he ain't looking to make any chums.
Shame Butch retired from the game though....he was bossing it and an SA win was guaranteed.
That said...it was nice to see Vickery return triumphantly, i don't begrudge any player that whatever his nationality in the circumstances....best tight head though.....hmmmm.....not at this stage, lets let him pack into the fold first before allowing him to be the best.....
It was certainly a thriller if not pretty. I was impressed by the confidence if nothing else of young Steyn, but seriously......it really was a grade B or C SA pack and they held their own.

slap him again TG....
Woodcock or Omar Hasan (who is a beast) to me are in form tightheads in the game at the moment. I'm tempted to mention Adam Jones....but I feel I may lose all credibility, but he has in fact improved a lot in the last 2 years.
i think that's true for both adam and duncan, but i'm just a bit sceptical of their fitness. neither are 80 minute players and you can't carry fat at international level - just look at how it affecetd the quinnell brothers towards the end of their international careers.
i think the player who impresses me most in the welsh front row is gethin jenkins. quick, mobile, good with ball in hand and strong as ox, he also has unusual rugby vision for a prop. most of all, he can play tight or loose at international level. very few can do that. didn't he play a bit of league at one time? he is fairly young and has a lot to learn (technically-speaking) but he could be a force for a long time.
i think gethin jenkins has plated at loosehead.
he's only about 12 years old.
should reach his prime in the next couple of decades
bladdy blah.
and thaigirly.
yes he has played in both positions, but he is a loosehead.
very much so.
aha. that might account for his ability to play either side. i think it's rather easier for a loosehead to play tight than the reverse.
i've just gone to the wru and the blues websites and they both show him as a tighthead. (i don't know how to do a link, sorry). i'm going back to bed.

sod the bloody blues.
go onto the pontypridd website.
poor bastard has been forced onto the tight.
Gethin is a loosehead.
always was and still is.
plays at one on the loosehead, almost always including against Australia and canada and next week against NZ.
that makes him a bloody loosehehead as far as I'm concerned.
BTW.
He can't hold up the tight.
