The unfashionable Lancashire side, who were in the bottom division just nine years ago, will be rubbing shoulders with Chelsea and Manchester United next season after a thrilling game in which they twice came from behind.

Cardiff, bidding to become the first Welsh side in the Premier League, led through Michael Chopra and Joe Ledley but they were pegged back by Charlie Adam and Gary Taylor-Fletcher before veteran frontman Ormerod cracked the winner in first-half stoppage time.
