Thread: Bangkok 8 Ball League

As probably Bangkok's finest pool player, I was slightly shocked last night when I lost my first match of the season!

In my defence the guy I was playing Daeng was very good and I'm going to blame the whole thing on the balls. The table was very nice and the right size but the balls were too small. I had a few beers with the owner after the game and he was aware of his small balls.

On the whole our team sucked big time and I think the final score was 6-2 with us loosing. I can't really remember the end of the game so there's a chance it was 8-0.

All joking aside the bar we were playing was called Jersey Bar on soi 4. They played very well and we all had a good laugh, so thanks go out to them.

Does anyone else here play in the league?

Our league is wednesday nights,

last week was first week of the new season, I came away with one win, one loss.

I'm assuming you play in an Indo league.

I felt bloody gutted for about 10 mins when I lost. I was ultra confident as I've not lost a game since last Thursday so I said "No problem, put me up first." dickhead.

often first game decides who will win the 2nd....


usually if i lose the first game, I drop my confidence and lose the second also.

if i win the first, as I did last week, I get so cocky that I lose the second.

The purpose of the Jakarta Pool League (JPL) is to organize opportunities for pool players to compete and socialize. The league organizes two separate billiard competitions each year, the Jakarta Expat and Ladies Pool Leagues (JEPL) and the Jakarta International and Ladies Pool Leagues (JIPL). In addition to regular fixtures, the JPL hosts exciting singles and team competitions and parties at the end of each season.

Is it because you play in the Ladies League?

I just found this little gem on the BKK website of me taking a Trophy at last years 9ball tournament.



I don't think I needed the bottle of JD but if I remember correctly I drank it anyway.

You play every game and more particularly every shot on its merits.

There is no way you can beat bad luck (or arsey shots) and sometimes the balls just don't run your way.

Great game pool and I just wish I could find the time to join a pool league.

Travel too much and the kids homework has to come first!

in theory, in practise many players let first game affect their second

I do. If I loose my first I wont play my second, but if I have a new player who's never played in front of a crowd loose his or her first I'll stick them straight back in.

More often than not they will win their second game. My strategy is that I don't want them mulling over their lost game until next week and being more nervous for their next game. Its good tot get a win under your belt early on.

oh sounds like you have different rules to our game.

we have to nominate which order in the team we play prior to starting games each evening. Each player plays 2 games in a row, against the same opposition player.

Yep everyone lets a first loss after them differently.

We get 2 chances of 4 to 8 players. We suckewd so bad last monday I think it could have been 7-1 to them. we got so drunk thouh that nobody really cared...

I am equally sure that he doesn't.
