    Nfl 2024 2025

The NFL preseason starts the week of August 9, with the first regular season game slated for Thursday, September 5, 2024.

2024 NFL Draft grades for all 32 teams

    One of many.........

Miami Dolphins - Overall grade: B+

It's a strong draft haul for the Dolphins. They found a potential 10-sack edge rusher with Chop Robinson in the first round and grabbed a future starter at offensive tackle with Patrick Paul. Their trade-up for Jaylen Wright in the fourth was perplexing. Overall this is still a good group of players. Malik Washington and Tahj Washington are two wide receivers who had a lot of buzz in college and could compete for reps behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

The Ravens just became the first team to sign a first-round pick from the 2024 NFL Draft.

Baltimore inked cornerback Nate Wiggins to his rookie deal on Thursday, per the league transaction wire.

Wiggins, the No. 30 overall pick out of Clemson, was the third CB off the board last week and quickly signed on the line to join a secondary long known for its lockdown capabilities.

Baltimore's defense ranked first in scoring overall last season, sixth in yards allowed through the air and second in passing touchdowns surrendered.

Wiggins brings an enviable dash of speed to a secondary group led by Marlon Humphrey, Kyle Hamilton and Marcus Williams, as his 4.28 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine was tops at his position. He made first-team All-ACC in his final year at Clemson and led the Tigers in passes defensed his last two seasons, with 12 and nine, respectively. Although Wiggins logged only three interceptions in his career, he took two back for scores.

He wasn't the only rookie signee for Baltimore on Thursday, either.

The Ravens also signed offensive tackle Roger Rosengarten (No. 62 overall), CB T.J. Tampa (No. 130) and safety Kane Sanoussi (No. 250).

All four players will join their other incoming teammates at Baltimore's rookie minicamp from May 3-5.

Odell Beckham's looking to make a splash in South Beach.

The star receiver's next stop will be in Miami, as Beckham is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Dolphins worth up to $8.25 million, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Friday, per sources.

The 31-year-old three-time Pro Bowler is now set to play for his fifth NFL team. Over the past three years, Beckham has been on three rosters – the Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Rams and Baltimore Ravens – and played in just 28 games.

Now, Beckham and the Fins will look to find the fountain of past form as he'll be slotted as the team's No. 3 receiver behind speedy standouts Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Though Beckham and the Dolphins have been linked for a while, it's a somewhat surprising signing following the 2024 NFL Draft, as Miami added Virginia wide receiver Malik Washington and USC WR Tahj Washington with sixth- and seventh-round selections.

Head coach Mike McDaniel's offense can never have too many options, it would seem.

    _________

The Seahawks signed nose tackle Buddha Jones on Sunday, one day after the undrafted rookie out of Troy finished taking part in Seattle's rookie minicamp as a tryout player.

Jones, who is 6-foot-1, 307 pounds, played the last three seasons at Troy after beginning his college career at Kent State. Over the last two seasons, Jones appeared in 28 games, recording 57 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

The addition of Jones gives the Seahawks 90 players on their roster, including 17 undrafted rookie free agents, though they are allowed to carry 91 players, as they receive a roster exemption for Italian tackle Max Pircher, who is part of the league's International Player Pathway program.

    ___________

The Eagles have signed another one of their draft picks.

Fifth-round guard Trevor Keegan has signed his four-year deal with the team. Sixth-round wideout Johnny Wilson has also signed his rookie contract.

Keegan was a three-year starter at left guard at Michigan and was part of an offensive line that won the Joe Moore Award as the best in the nation for two of those seasons. Keegan was a captain for the Wolverines during their run to the national title last year.

Cam Jurgens’s move to center leaves an opening at right guard for the Eagles. Tyler Steen and Matt Hennessey are experienced options, but Keegan could work his way into consideration with a strong camp and preseason.

Chargers sign pass rusher Bud Dupree to two-year deal worth up to $10 million

The Chargers aren't done fortifying their roster with the draft passed and rookie minicamp underway.

Los Angeles signed pass rusher Bud Dupree to a two-year, $6 million deal that can be worth up to $10 million, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Saturday.

The team confirmed Dupree's signing shortly after.

The decision to move out west provides Dupree his third home in as many years, which comes after he experienced a slight resurgence on the Atlanta Falcons following two injury-affected seasons as a Tennessee Titan.

Dupree tallied 6.5 sacks in 2023, the third most of his career, and delivered 39 tackles -- four more than what he produced in his two prior seasons combined. He added three passes defensed, two forced fumbles and eight quarterback hits in 16 starts.

His sack total last season also bumped him to 53 in his career, placing him in the 50-club with his new teammates Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack, who have 67 and 101.5, respectively.

Coach Jim Harbaugh and Co. likely plan to use the 31-year-old as a rotational piece behind those two as they look to improve a unit that ranked 24th in scoring and 28th in yards allowed last season under the old guard.

    ________

Broncos sign QB Bo Nix, No. 12 overall pick, to rookie contract

The last of six historic quarterbacks selected in the 2024 NFL Draft's first dozen picks, Bo Nix is the first among them to ink his rookie deal.

Denver has signed Nix to a four-year rookie contract that includes a fifth-year option, the team announced.

The Broncos took Nix at No. 12 overall with the intent to replace the departed Russell Wilson and install Nix as the next true franchise QB for a club that's been lacking one since the days of Peyton Manning.

Nix, on the older side for a rookie at 24, spent three seasons with Auburn and two more with Oregon, finishing his collegiate career with 1,936 passing yards, 85 touchdowns and 26 interceptions in 61 games played.

A Heisman finalist in his final season for the Ducks, Nix joins a QB room made up of Zach Wilson and Jarrett Stidham, both previous starters but probable to sit behind the rookie from the start as head coach Sean Payton looks to find his match like he did with Drew Brees in 15 seasons leading the New Orleans Saints.

Inking a pact is one step in the process down.

With the paperwork out of the way, Nix can now focus on the offseason program and eventually proving Denver right to nab him early in the draft.

NFL Rumors: Lions' Jared Goff Expected to be Next QB to Score $50M+ Megadeal Contract

The Detroit Lions are reportedly ready to commit to Jared Goff as their franchise quarterback moving forward.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on SportsCenter on Sunday that Goff is next in line among quarterbacks to strike a long-term contract with his franchise.

The Lions are on record that Jared Goff, signing him to an extension, is a 'high priority' so they are working on this. The feeling around the league from the people I've talked to is that Goff will be the next quarterback to score that megadeal. You've got Tua Tagovailoa in Miami, Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville, some others like maybe Dak Prescott down the road but Goff and the Lions seem to be the closest. Nothing imminent right now but they insist this is something they've been talking about, and the Lions are committed to keeping their core together. Amon-Ra St. Brown, kept him on a huge four-year deal, right tackle Penei Sewell four-year deal, so Goff could be the next with a four-year deal. The market is pretty clear, though. You're looking at $50-plus million for a lot of these quarterbacks per year. We'll see how far the Lions are willing to go.

Goff is set to make $22.3 million in base salary next season and already earned a $5 million roster bonus. His total cash earnings for 2024 rank him 17th among quarterbacks.

Goff's new contract should more than double his expected 2024 earnings on a yearly basis. Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson, Justin Herbert and Joe Burrow have all signed deals for more than $50 million per season over the last year. While Goff isn't quite on their tier among quarterbacks, his best comp may be Kirk Cousins, who landed $45 million per season this offseason from the Atlanta Falcons.
    __________

    Browns sign QB Jacob Sirmon

The Browns have added another quarterback to their 90-man roster.

The team announced that they have signed Jacob Sirmon after a tryout at this weekend’s rookie minicamp. They did not announce any corresponding moves.

Sirmon spent time at Washington and Central Michigan before wrapping up his time in college at Northern Colorado. He threw for 1,206 yards, seven touchdowns and seven interceptions in seven games during the 2023 season.

The Browns also have Deshaun Watson, Jameis Winston, Tyler Huntley, and Dorian Thompson-Robinson on the roster at quarterback at the moment. Teams don’t generally keep five quarterbacks on the roster, but Watson is returning from shoulder surgery and Thompson-Robinson suffered a hip injury late in the regular season so the Browns may want to limit them at points during the offseason program.

    ___________

Detroit Lions reportedly signing rookie minicamp tryout WR Kaden Davis

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Detroit Lions are signing wide receiver Kaden Davis to their 90-man roster. Davis was with the team this weekend as part of their rookie minicamp tryout squad. He was notably the intended receiver on a pass that was picked off by Lions first-round pick Terrion Arnold. Davis initially beats Arnold on the crosser, but as the play breaks down, he couldn’t break free on a downfield route.

Davis entered the league in 2022 as an undrafted receiver out of Northwest Missouri State. He spent his rookie season on and off the Denver Broncos practice squad but was far more active in 2023. First, he was part of the Michigan Panthers team, playing in five games at the USFL level. As the primary kickoff returner, Davis totaled 311 yards on 12 attempts (25.9 average), while also adding eight catches for 83 years.

After the USFL season was over, Davis joined the Arizona Cardinals. He spent the entire season on their practice squad but was elevated for one game in December (although he did not end up making it on the field). In the preseason, though, Davis caught eight passes for 73 yards and a touchdown, while also adding 27 yards on two punt returns.

    ____________

Steelers sign CB Anthony Averett after minicamp tryout

Cornerback Anthony Averett spent the weekend taking part in the Steelers’ rookie minicamp on a tryout basis and he will be sticking around a while longer.

Agent Chad Wiestling told PFT that the Steelers have signed Averett to a one-year deal after watching him work out with the team.

Averett spent time with the 49ers and Lions last season, but did not see any action in the regular season. He played seven games and made six starts for the Raiders in 2022 and he started 21 of the 44 games he played for the Raiders between 2018 and 2021.

Averett has 114 tackles, three interceptions, and 23 passes defensed over the course of his career.

Ex-49ers DE Chase Young reaches 1-year, $13 million deal with New Orleans Saints

Chase Young is still just 24 years old.

It seems like he has been around longer than that, mostly because his NFL career has had so many turns. He was an immediate star with the Washington Commanders after being the second overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, then disappeared for a while due to injuries. He was traded to the San Francisco 49ers last season and didn't have much impact with them until showing up with a sack and some other splash plays in the Super Bowl.

Young is now on to the next chapter of his NFL career. The New Orleans Saints reached a deal with Young on Monday afternoon.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the two sides reached a one-year, fully guaranteed $13 million deal.

There's still the hope, including from Young himself, that he can be the player who was so impressive at Ohio State and as a rookie in Washington.

Bucs Antoine Winfield Jr. makes NFL history with multi-million dollar deal

A year to the date after making his bold prediction on social media that he wanted to be named All-Pro and become the highest paid safety, the Bucs held a press conference to formally announce Antoine Winfield Jr. as the highest paid defensive back in NFL history.

    It's a 4-year deal worth $84.1 million dollars.

"I don't even know how to explain it," Winfield Jr. told FOX 13 Sports. "It's very surreal, but I know one thing I did do. I went to my calculator and typed in the contract. I'm like wow, that's insane."

Winfield Jr. manifested it and earned it. In just four years in the league, he's already put together a career resume.

Winfield Jr. has won a Super Bowl, was named an All-Pro and is the only player in NFL history to record 100 tackles, three sacks, three interceptions, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in a season. And he's far from satisfied.

"I'm still going to continue to go out here perform and play hard," Winfield Jr. said. "That's just something that's in my DNA."

NFL to Test 1st Down Technology in Preseason; Rule Change in 2024 If Approved

NFL fans may not have to worry about referees estimating whether players picked up enough yardage for a first down when spotting the football in the near future.

According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, the NFL will test an optical tracking system during the preseason that is intended to "make for a more accurate measuring system that reduces the amount of human error."

If it works and is approved by those around the league, the NFL could use it during the 2024 regular season as well.

Jones explained that, although game footballs do have microchips in them, this technology doesn't actually use those microchips and instead is based on optical tracking.

It is a system that has already been used at MetLife Stadium (New York Jets and New York Giants) and Hard Rock Stadium (Miami Dolphins) but will need to be installed in stadiums around the league in time for the preseason testing.

If there are any issues or the NFL isn't confident enough in the system, it could push it back to the 2025 campaign.

Jones also noted that even while the system is being used, there will still be chain gangs present. However, they will be used as backups and as a reference point for coaches, players and fans.

Officials spotting the ball on close plays has been a source of frustration for fans, players and coaches in the past. That is especially the case when the officials aren't in the best position to see how far a player advanced before he is tackled.

Eagles sign former first-round wide receiver John Ross to one-year deal

John Ross is back in the NFL. On Thursday, the former first-round wide receiver signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, the team announced. The specific financial terms were not immediately disclosed. This signing comes after Ross accepted an invitation to Eagles rookie minicamp as a tryout player.

This is the next step in Ross' comeback attempt into the league. The 28-year-old signed a futures/reserve contract with the Kansas City Chiefs in January 2023. Later that July, however, Ross informed the team that he was retiring and was then placed on the reserve/retired list.

Before initially calling it a career, Ross last played in a regular-season game back on Dec. 12, 2021 (Week 14) when he was with the New York Giants. Ross entered the league as the No. 9 overall pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in 2017 out of Washington. His record-breaking speed at the NFL Scouting Combine helped build his hype as he made his transition into the NFL, but was never able to truly live up to that first-round billing.

Injuries limited Ross to three games during his rookie season and plagued him for most of his tenure with the Bengals. In 13 games played (career high) in 2018, he caught 21 passes for 210 yards and seven touchdowns. He notched highs in receptions (28) and receiving yards (506) the following year in 2019 despite only playing in eight contests.

Ross will join an Eagles wide receiver room that is headlined by A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith and also features the likes of Parris Campbell along with rookies Ainias Smith and Johnny Wilson. Ross also comes to Philadelphian in the aftermath of fellow veteran receiver DeVante Parker deciding to retire earlier this week.

NFL considering Paris and Dublin as future hosts for regular-season games

In the NFL's ongoing quest to bring American football to the entire world, Paris and Dublin are among the cities that are being evaluated to potentially host future games.

Henry Hodgson, general manager of the NFL's UK office, told the Irish Times that the league is looking at several cities to determine whether they have a suitable stadium to host the NFL and a fan base that would be enthusiastic about attending NFL games.

"There's a feasibility study, as we would call it, in a number of different European cities and Dublin is one of those," Hodgson said. "Looking at the stadiums, taking local meetings . . . we'll take away all of that information, digest it and determine what the next steps are. That's something that's happening in Dublin, it’s happening in Paris for example, and a number of other cities around the world as well."

This year the NFL is playing three games in London, one game in Munich and one game in Sao Paulo. Next year Madrid will host a game, and Mexico City is expected to get back into the mix. The league has also indicated that Australia could host a regular-season game. International games continue to draw big crowds paying high prices for tickets, and the time zones can give the NFL the ability to open new broadcast windows for games that kick off at unusual times but can still draw big ratings in the United States. It's easy to see why, from the league's perspective, increasing the number of international games is an ongoing priority.

Patrick Queen turned down more money for chance to 'win right now' with Steelers

Patrick Queen switched sides in a classic AFC North rivalry this offseason, and it turns out he turned down more money from elsewhere to do so.

The Raven-turned-Steeler hit the open market in March coming off a Pro Bowl bid and a second-team All-Pro nomination -- both firsts in his career -- and took a three-year, $41 million deal to join Pittsburgh because he believes he can win a championship there.

"From all the 15 teams that I was talking to, it came down to like five at the end," Queen recently told Steelers_DB regarding his journey in free agency. "It was just like five teams in the mix. Some of them were offering some $17 (million per year). After that it was like, I have a chance to either go win or I have a chance to get paid. For me, the difference was like $4 or $5 million. I'm looking at it like, I've never been on a losing team before, and then I also don't want to be a part of anything being rebuilt because I'm trying to win now. … I'm really just trying to win right now, get that out the way and then get paid later."

If the Steelers truly did underbid for Queen, they were lucky to lure him to the Black and Gold thanks to a winning culture and sustained history of defensive excellence. Coming off a season with a career-high 133 tackles, he's an ideal off-ball linebacker to capitalize behind the havoc wreaked by pass rushers T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith.

Plus, he'll be paid handsomely for his services regardless. Queen currently slots in as the fifth-highest paid linebacker on a per-year basis with an average of $13.6 million.

Former first-round pick forced to retire from NFL after medical scare results in emergency surgery

Former Cincinnati Bengals first-round center Billy Price announced his retirement from the NFL on Saturday, revealing that he had emergency surgery to save his life this offseason. The 29-year-old had a pulmonary embolism that required treatment, which directly led to his decision to hang up the cleats.

Price announced his decision on Instagram

"In the blink of an eye, everything can be taken away. On April 24th I had emergency pulmonary embolism surgery to remove a saddle clot that was entering both of my lungs. As a healthy 29 year old, an unprovoked pulmonary embolism with no further medical explanation is terrifying. I am truly thankful to be alive today. Unfortunately, I will be retiring from the NFL as the risk of an internal bleed while on blood thinners creates tremendous risk.

I am truly thankful for the opportunity to have played in some of the greatest atmospheres around the world. I am thankful to have trained and played alongside men who will continue to make Pro Bowls, All Pro Rosters and Hall of Fame recognitions.

To my wife: this career would not have been possible without your continued love and support. The sacrifices you have made over the course of my career do not go unnoticed. I cannot wait to navigate the next chapter in life with you as we continue to grow our family."

The Ohio State product was selected by the Bengals with the No. 21 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. After three seasons in Cincinnati, Price was traded to the New York Giants, the team he played out the final year of his rookie contract with. Price spent 2022 with the Arizona Cardinals, making 11 starts, and then 2023 with the Dallas Cowboys on their practice squad. In his six NFL seasons, Price played in 69 total games with 45 starts.

Mayor of London wants a Super Bowl in England: Here's how the NFL feels about the possibility

After 17 years of hosting regular-season games, the city of London is now hoping to land the NFL's biggest game: The Super Bowl.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, revealed this week that he's hoping to convince the NFL to put a future Super Bowl in his city. The NFL has held 58 Super Bowls and all of them have been held in the United States, but Khan wants to change that.

"The Super Bowl is really important for us," Khan told The Athletic this week. "We have a number of American football games and I want it to come here because we want American sports fans in Europe to come to London to watch them, not just go to America."

Khan had promised in April that he would do everything in his power to get a Super Bowl to England if he was re-elected as mayor and that happened on May 2 when he was voted to an unprecedented third term.

One issue with putting a Super Bowl in London is the time difference. London is five hours ahead of the eastern time zone, which means the game would likely have to kick off around 9 p.m. in London for it to make sense. That would be a 4 p.m. ET kickoff and 1 p.m. PT for everyone on the West Coast.

The last Super Bowl to kick off in the 4 p.m. ET hour was Super Bowl XVI on CBS (49ers over Bengals), which also happened to be the highest-rated Super Bowl in NFL history, so the time change might not be insurmountable (Last year's game on CBS had the most viewers in television history with 123.4 million, but the 42.1 rating didn't top the 49.1 rating for Super Bowl XVI).

Even if the time zone situation were to get figured out, it's still unlikely that London would get a game in the near future.

For one, the next three Super Bowl locations have already been decided, and here's what that looks like:

If London was going to host a Super Bowl, it couldn't come until February 2028 at the earliest, but even that seems unlikely.

During a fan forum in London that was held back in October, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was actually asked about the possibility of putting a Super Bowl in London and although he didn't rule it out, it didn't sound like something that's going to happen anytime soon, if it happens at all.

"It is not impossible, and it is something that has been discussed before," Goodell said at the time, via ESPN.com. "I think that is not out of the question. But at the end of the day, I think right now our formula will stay the same about playing [Super Bowls] in cities that have franchises."

Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins among teams to get NFL salary cap relief

With the start of June approaching, a group of NFL teams are about to add some cap space. Even during the downtime of the NFL offseason, there are moves to be made.

In 2024, about one-third of the teams in the NFL released players with post-June 1 designations, meaning the player was cut in March but the salary cap implications were delayed until June 2. Until June 1, the players carry their existing cap number.

The biggest name on the list for 2024 has the largest dead cap hit in NFL history. The Denver Broncos took on $85 million in dead cap space in order to release Russell Wilson this offseason. However, Denver won’t gain any cap space on June 2nd because his 2024 cap hit was $35.4 million and the Year 1 dead cap hit on the deal is also $35.4 million. The benefit of the move is they are able to spread the remaining $49.6 million in dead money to Year 2 in 2025.

Here are all the post-June 1 designations and how the dead cap will be calculated in the next two years:

    • Arizona Cardinals: D.J. Humphries ($6.9 million in 2024, $6.9 million moved to 2025)
    • Baltimore Ravens: Odell Beckham Jr. ($2.8 million in 2024, $8.3 million moved to 2025)
    • Buffalo Bills: Tre’Davious White ($6.2 million in 2024, $4.1 million moved to 2025)
    • Dallas Cowboys: Michael Gallup ($4.35 million in 2024, $8.7 million moved to 2025)
    • Denver Broncos: Russell Wilson ($35.4 million in 2024, $49.6 million moved to 2025)
    • Detroit Lions: Cameron Sutton ($2.2 million in 2024, $6.5 million moved to 2025)
    • Green Bay Packers: De’Vondre Campbell ($3.6 million in 2024, $8 million moved to 2025)
    • Las Vegas Raiders: Jimmy Garoppolo ($4.3 million in 2024, $12.8 million moved to 2025)
    • Miami Dolphins: Xavien Howard ($7.4 million in 2024, $15.7 million moved to 2025)
    • New Orleans Saints: Michael Thomas ($11.2 million in 2024, $9.2 million moved to 2025)
    • New Orleans Saints: Jameis Winston ($3.4 million in 2024, $7.4 million moved to 2025)
    • San Francisco 49ers: Arik Armstead ($10.6 million in 2024, $14.8 million moved to 2025)
    • Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Shaq Barrett ($12.3 million in 2024, $17.4 million moved to 2025)

That second number is not how much cap space will be created for teams on June 2. Rather, it’s just how the dead money is going to be moved into the future.
