    Final (O/T) - Kansas City Chiefs (25) vs San Francisco 49ers (22) – Highlights

    CHIEFS WIN SUPER BOWL 58

    tense fans the entire game

    ________

What We Learned from Chiefs’ overtime win vs. 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII

The Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers, 25-22, in overtime on Sunday to win Super Bowl LVIII.

Through the triumph -- it's fourth in franchise history -- Kansas City became the first team to repeat as Super Bowl champions since the 2003-04 New England Patriots, breaking the longest back-to-back drought in NFL history.

The Chiefs also became the fourth organization to win three Super Bowls in a five-year span, joining the Pats, Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers.

The 49ers' heartbreaking loss is the franchise's third defeat in eight tries, with all three losses coming in their most recent appearances. They've now been vanquished twice by Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in a Super Bowl, and they haven't captured a Lombardi Trophy since the 1994 season.

The longest Super Bowl game will also go down as the most-watched programme in US television history.

According to Nielsen and Adobe Analytics, Kansas City's 25-22 overtime victory over San Francisco on Sunday night averaged 123.4 million viewers across television and streaming platforms.

That shattered last year's mark of 115.1 million, and is a 7% increase.

The game was televised by CBS, Nickelodeon and Univision and streamed on Paramount+ as well as the NFL's digital platforms.

Nielsen, an American data firm, also said a record 202.4 million watched at least part of the game across all networks, a 10% jump over last year's figure of 183.6 million.

The CBS broadcast averaged 120 million.

Some of the increase can be attributed to a change in the way viewers are counted - Nielsen began including out-of-home viewers in its ratings in 2020, but only from limited markets. That measurement expanded to all 50 states beginning this year.

This Super Bowl had the added attraction of Taylor Swift in attendance - the pop superstar is dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, a romance that has brought new fans to the NFL.

Front Office Sports, a media organisation covering the business of sport, reported Swift has generated a “brand value” of $331.5 million (£264 million) for the Chiefs and the NFL.

The Kansas City Chiefs are a dynasty, and Patrick Mahomes strengthened his argument as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time during Sunday's 25-22 OT win over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.

Mahomes, whose game-winning touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman in overtime gave the Chiefs the win, has joined Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw and Troy Aikman as the only starting quarterbacks with at least three Super Bowl wins. He was named Super Bowl MVP for the third time, a feat only Brady (five times) and Montana (three times) have matched.

While he won the game with his arm, Mahomes put himself and his team in position to win the game by making some key plays with his legs. In overtime, Mahomes had an eight-yard run on 4th-and-1 and a 19-yard run moments later. Those plays set up his game-winning strike to Hardman with three seconds left in overtime.

Mahomes finished the night with 333 yards and two touchdowns on 34 of 46 passing. But he also ran for a team-high 66 yards on nine carries, the second-most rushing yards by a quarterback in Super Bowl history.

Last night, the Kansas City Chiefs weren't the only ones who celebrated a big win — it was also a big night for green energy.

The event was the first Super Bowl to be powered entirely by renewable energy, an impressive feat considering the sheer amount of electricity needed to keep the lights on in a stadium that seats up to 65,000 fans.

The Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas got all of its power from the gigantic Arrow Canyon Solar Project, owned by local utility NV Energy.

The farm, which is located on the Moapa Band of Paiute Indians Reservation 20 miles from Sin City, is made up of 621,000 panels as well as battery storage.

As Business Insider reports, the stadium was estimated to consume 28 megawatt hours of power during this year's Super Bowl.

"If they can do it, hopefully it inspires people with homes or small businesses and other corporations to move in this direction," Adam Kramer, CEO of NZero, the company that tracks the stadium's emissions, told BI. "There's not a bigger stage in the United States than the Super Bowl, and the fact that sustainability is one of the storylines says everything."

Outside of powering stadiums, the solar farm is designed to generate enough energy for up to 76,000 average Nevada homes.

Biden to welcome Kansas City Chiefs to White House

President Biden will welcome the Kansas City Chiefs to the White House on May 31, the White House announced on Friday.

The Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers to win the 2023 Super Bowl in Las Vegas. The also won the Super Bowl the year prior and visited the White House in June 2023.

During last year’s visit, Biden, who often quips that he’s a Philadelphia Eagles fan by marriage, said he predicts Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes will be considered one of the best quarterbacks ever.

The White House did not give more details about the forthcoming visit, but Chiefs players have been making headlines recently. Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker received backlash for a graduation speech, during which he told female graduates that they might find more satisfaction being wives and mothers than they would through their careers.

Mahomes weighed in this week, saying that although he doesn’t agree with everything Butker said, he is a “good person” who has the right to express himself.

And Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is famously in a relationship with megastar Taylor Swift, an influential voice that the Biden campaign has reportedly been seeking an endorsement from.

Around the Super Bowl, conspiracy theories swirled that the relationship was scripted in order to gain football viewers, an idea that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell brushed off at the time.

Conservative social media was engulfed with the theory that the NFL was rigging games so the Chiefs would make it to the final game of the season and Swift could hand her endorsement to Biden.
