Another racing driver killed at Spa-Francorchamps Belgium

Another Spa death leaves no excuse for resisting change - The Race

The death of Dilano van’t Hoff after a crash at Spa has shocked motorsport and brought back haunting memories. It must result in strong action. And Formula 1’s imminent visit means immediate change might be necessary, too.

Many who witnessed or suffered from Anthoine Hubert’s fatal accident in 2019 will have gone through a similar thought process as word and footage of Van’t Hoff’s crash spread. Not again. Not there.

There was an epic wreck in Indycar today too but the driver walked away. This is a great wreck.

It would be a pity to change the Spa course but there is a definite lack of grip even in the dry. I don't enjoy watching racing in the wet, perhaps it would be better to delay wet weather races than to change the circuit.

As for being T-boned, it's a risk on any circuit and in any weather but chances are far greater with reduced visibility in the wet.

Nothing cool about that crash skiddy.

This is just another media thing.

There isn't one serious car- or bike racer, who isn't aware of the risks in racing.

A calculated risk also accepted by their families.

They modified the track last winter. They cut into the berm and moved the wall further out but it wasn't nearly enough.

The business model of these tracks is flawed. They are always short of money. So they say

Yeah but this is very track specific. And even section specific. Same straight stretch.

5 drivers have been killed since 2000. That is a very bad record for the modern era.

The most recent previous to this was Anthoine Hubert in 2019

Looking at the news footage, racing should have been suspended. FFS the spectators could hardly see what was going on so the drivers must have been near blind.
