A big name from my part of the world...
David Bryant: Winner of multiple world bowls titles dies aged 88
David Bryant, the winner of multiple Commonwealth gold medals and world titles, has died aged 88.
The Englishman won six world singles titles - three outdoor and three indoor - while four of his five Commonwealth golds were in singles competition.
He also formed a formidable partnership with Tony Allcock, with whom he won six world indoor pairs titles.
David Tucker, chair of the Bowls England board, described Bryant as "an icon for many decades".

a great bowler,he might even been the greatest ever, and his playing partner is not bad either.
David Capel
Cricketing all-rounder who was loyal to Northamptonshire and made 15 Test appearances for England.
Capel, who has died aged 57 of a brain tumour, never quite established himself as the next Botham. However, he remained all his life one of the best-loved figures in English cricket.
Spectators enjoyed his commitment: he could get theatrically cross in adversity. His colleagues appreciated his skills, integrity and good nature.
Above all, he was a local hero: he spent his whole career with Northamptonshire, a team that imports most of their players.
But he was truly their own, and when he made his Test debut in 1987 was the first player born in the county to be capped in 77 years.
He had an unbroken association with the club from his second XI debut as a 16-year-old in 1979 until he was sacked after six years as head coach in 2012.
As in football, coaches now come and go, but this was like Lear banishing Cordelia.

Not a bad debut."He walked to the crease when England were at 31 for 5 and scored a fifty against Imran Khan and Wasim Akram. He eventually top scored in England's first innings total of 136 with 53 off 161 balls."
RIP
Had the heart of a lion, but Hagler cut him up badly and that was the end of his career pretty well.
Met him in a pub in Crawley back in the 80's, I think he had a bar restaurant there somewhere. Nice chap.
Alan Minter: British boxing legend dies aged 69 | Boxing News | Sky SportsAlan Minter: British boxing legend dies aged 69
British boxing legend Alan Minter has died aged 69.
Minter was a 1972 Olympic bronze medallist then, as a professional, became the world middleweight champion in 1980.
That crowning glory of the world title came when Minter had already claimed British and European titles.
But it was controversial - it was his Las Vegas debut and a disputed points win over Vito Antuofermo led to a rematch. Second time around, Minter forced his opponent to retire.
Minter was beaten in three rounds at Wembley Arena by Marvin Hagler, who would go on to become one of the greatest middleweights ever.
'Boom Boom' Minter called a halt to his career in 1981 with a 39-9 record.
He died on Wednesday after a long battle with cancer.
Dean Jones played 52 Tests and scored 3631 runs including 11 centuries, and featured in 164 One-Dayers, racking up 6063 runs, seven centuries and 46 fifties.

England Legend Nobby Stiles Dies Aged 78
Former England and Manchester United midfielder Nobby Stiles has passed away aged 78 after lengthy battles with dementia and prostate cancer.
A graduate of United's academy, Stiles was a key player in the England side that won the 1966 World Cup, making headlines for his iconic dance after the final whistle - which saw him hold the trophy in one hand and his false teeth in the other.
"The Stiles family are sad to announce that Nobby Stiles passed away peacefully today (30/10/2020) surrounded by his family after a long illness," a family statement read (via ITV). “The family kindly ask for privacy at this sad time.”
Stiles had to overcome plenty of obstacles to make it at United. He was short as a teenager and also had very poor eyesight, but his ability as a no-nonsense midfielder saw him win over manager Matt Busby.
He impressed on his debut in October 1960, almost redefining the idea of what it meant to be a midfielder. Busby deployed Stiles as a shield ahead of his defence, utilising his tough-tackling and surprisingly impressive eye for a pass to give the Red Devils another edge.
The defining moment of Stiles' illustrious career came six years later when he emerged as an integral part of Alf Ramsey's England side, and his role in the Three Lions' sole World Cup glory often went under the radar.
In the semi-final victory over Porto, Stiles was given the unenviable job of man-marking Eusébio. He did so with devastating ease, attracting criticism from many for the unattractive style of play, but neither Stiles nor Ramsey were interested.
His famous jig after the win over West Germany in the final will never be forgotten, and Stiles created another memory just one year later as he led United to glory in the 1968 European Cup, again overcoming Eusébio and his Benfica side in the final.
After 395 appearances for the Red Devils, Stiles was sold to Middlesbrough in 1971, and after two years with Boro, he moved to Preston North End and brought his career to an end in 1975.
Stiles then went on to manage Preston, before spending time in charge of Vancouver Whitecaps and West Bromwich Albion.

Had he been ill for a while?
I remember that extraordinary game between Italy and the mighty Brazil team, and cheering Italy on in the final after the squarehead Schumacher's brutal assault on Battiston went unpunished.

Paolo Rossi, star of Italy’s 1982 World Cup-winning campaign, has died at the age of 64. The news was announced in the early hours of Thursday by Italian TV channel RAI Sport. The cause of death has not been revealed.
“Such terribly sad news: Paolo Rossi has left us,” said RAI Sport presenter Enrico Varriale.
“Unforgettable Pablito, who made all of us fall in love in that summer of 1982 and who was a precious and competent work colleague in RAI over recent years.” Rossi had been working for RAI Sport as a pundit.
Rossi’s wife, Federica Cappelletti, confirmed the news as she posted a photo of herself and her husband on her Instagram page, captioning the picture, “per sempre” meaning ‘forever’.
Rossi is most widely recognised for his heroics at the 1982 World Cup in Spain and scored the opening goal in the final which Italy won 3-1 against West Germany. He also won the tournament’s Golden Boot and Golden Ball.
Rossi scored 20 goals in 48 appearances for Italy.
