as a Rugby man can you tell me the difference between the Heinekin European cup (won by Munster) and the European Challenge cup?

No, I can't. Until last Monday I nevr knew the EC Cup existed.

The EC challenge cup is similar ti the UEFA cup, teams that finish outside of the top 4 or 5 in their domestic leagues qualify.
It has been running nearly as long as the EC itself.
it was a great final this year.

Cardiff continued their good pre-season by overwhelming the China Under-20 team at Vancouver Whitecaps' Swangard Stadium home on Friday night.

New striker Michael Chopra was again on target, setting the Bluebirds on their way with a brace inside 20 minutes.

First the Geordie headed home a Neil Ardley cross, then cooly converted a measured cut-back from Stephen McPhail.

Steve Thompson's shot was deflected in by Darren Purse, Paul Parry nodded home and Thompson's volley finished things.

New Cardiff striker Luigi Glombard
Striker Luigi Glombard has quit Nantes to join Cardiff
Cardiff City have strengthened their striking options by signing 21-year-old Luigi Glombard from Nantes.

Glombard, born in Montreuil-sous-Bois, joined the Nantes academy in 2000 and made his senior debut in 2002.

He was part of the France side that won the 2001 Under-17 World Championships, playing alongside the likes of Anthony Le Tallec and Florent Sinama Pongolle.

Cardiff have also brought in versatile Arsenal full-back Kerrea Gilbert on a season-long loan.

The 19-year-old broke into the Arsenal first-team last season, with an appearance in the Champions League tie against Ajax among his eight outings.

He also played against Cardiff in Arsenal's FA Cup third round win.

Glombard has struggled to hold down a first-team place at Nantes, scoring twice in 29 games over four seasons.

Now if only West Brom would do the right thing and let us have Jason Koumas.

Flood came through the youth system at Manchester City
Manchester City and Republic of Ireland Under-21 right-wing Willo Flood is poised to join Cardiff on Wednesday.

The tough-tackling Dubliner was due to undergo a medical on Tuesday and is expected to be in the squad for Saturday's season opener at Barnsley.

Flood, in the last year of his contract at Manchester, is expected to sign a four-year, £200,000 deal.

He came through the youth system at the Manchester club before signing a professional contract three years ago.

Flood has since had loan spells at Championship sides Rochdale and Coventry.

Cardiff, who continue to chase Jason Koumas, are also keen to add a new striker to their squad for the start of the season.

Sheffield United's Geoff Horsfield is the latest name to be linked with the Ninian Park club, but the Yorkshireman is thought to be keen to stay in the north.

John Hartson's arrival at West Brom led to Campbell's release
Former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell has joined Cardiff after being released by West Brom.

The 36-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements at the Baggies after John Hartson arrived from Celtic.

Campbell is expected to be named as a substitute at Barnsley on Saturday, acting as back-up to Steve Thompson and Michael Chopra.

Lambeth-born Campbell began his career at Arsenal in 1987 and has commanded fees of £8.3m over his career.

He moved from Arsenal to Nottingham Forest for £2.8m, from Forest to Turkish club Trabzonspor for £2.5m, and from Trabzonspor to Everton for £3m.

The burly front man joined West Brom from Everton in January 2005, playing 45 first-team matches and scoring six goals.

Campbell has scored 166 goals during his career, making 464 first-team starts and 101 appearances as substitute.

How about a league 2 thread - I'm now living a 5min walk away from Bristol Rovers' ground - I'll be able to hear when a goal is scored from my window (not that I'll be giving a shit though)

I'll probably go to one game though just to check it out.



Come to think of it Bristol City are in league one - perhaps Bristol C v. Crewe can be looked forward to!
