Well Pretty Boy made up his mind.

    Maidana up next for Mayweather

    Updated: February 24, 2014, 8:14 PM ET
    By Dan Rafael | ESPN.com

Floyd Mayweather Jr. gave himself a 37th birthday present on Monday: an opponent. The pound-for-pound king announced on Twitter that he will next fight fellow welterweight titleholder Marcos Maidana on May 3.
"I will be fighting Marcos Maidana May 3rd on Pay-per-view Showtime/CBS," Mayweather tweeted.

The 147-pound unification fight will be carried by Showtime PPV and take place at a venue to be determined -- either in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand, the frontrunner, where Mayweather has had his last eight fights, or the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., which came into the picture in recent weeks and is making a strong push for the fight.

Golden Boy Promotions chief executive Richard Schaefer, who has worked with Mayweather since 2007 and also promotes Maidana, told ESPN.com that he hopes to have the venue locked in "in the next couple of days along with the ticket information."
The fight will be the third of the 30-month, six-fight deal worth $200 million-plus that Mayweather signed with Showtime and parent network CBS last February. Mayweather has said he plans to retire at the conclusion of the contract.

Mayweather (45-0, 26 KOs) holds world titles at junior middleweight and welterweight but will return to welterweight to make his second defense when he faces Maidana (35-3, 31 KOs), 30, the crowd-pleasing slugger from Argentina, who will be making the first defense of his belt. Maidana, who landed the fight over former fellow former junior welterweight titlist Amir Khan, won his world title in dramatic upset fashion by scoring two knockdowns in a unanimous decision against Adrien Broner in their Dec. 14 brawl at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
"Marcos Maidana's last performance immediately brought him to my attention," Mayweather said. "He is an extremely skilled fighter who brings knockout danger to the ring. I think this is a great fight for me and he deserves the opportunity to see if he can do what 45 others have tried to do before him -- beat me."
Said Maidana, "I am extremely happy to be facing Floyd Mayweather because it will give me the opportunity to show the world that I am the best welterweight in the division. I just handed a great defensive fighter his first loss and I plan to do the same to Mayweather. I don't care whether he's the best and undefeated. I will bring some real Latino power to him on May 3rd."
In his last fight, Mayweather easily outpointed Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on Sept. 14 to unify junior middleweight titles in a record-smashing fight that set numerous records, including the biggest pay-per-view gross in history ($150 million) and biggest live gate ($20 million). In addition, the bout sold 2.2 million pay-per-view units, second-most all time behind the near 2.5 million subscriptions sold for Mayweather's 2007 showdown with Oscar De La Hoya.
The May 3 fight does not figure to come close to that sort of business because Maidana is not nearly as popular as Alvarez and will be an even bigger underdog. But Maidana, one of the best punchers in boxing, does possess fight-changing power.
"Marcos Maidana is, without question, one of the most exciting fighters in the sport," Schaefer, said. "He is must-see TV and one of those guys who people keep asking me, 'When is he fighting again,' because you know he is never in a boring fight. What we're going to see May 3 is two game-changers in action. Floyd Mayweather is the game changer. He has the biggest pay-per-views and the biggest fights. He's changed the game. Marcos Maidana has the game changer in his punch, in his fists. With one punch he can change the game of boxing.
"Mayweather is undefeated but with that one punch, Marcos Maidana can certainly change it all for Floyd. Floyd has to fight the perfect fight. Is he capable of doing that? Of course. But can Maidana connect for that one moment? Yes, of course. We saw it in the Broner fight. How is Floyd going to react once he gets hit by Maidana?"
Maidana got the nod as Mayweather's opponent over England's Khan, who barely edged Maidana in a 2010 junior welterweight title fight. Khan was so sure that he was going to get the fight that he pulled out of negotiations for a welterweight title fight with then-titleholder Devon Alexander in December.
But without a world title or an impressive performance for the past few years, combined with Maidana's eye-opening victory against previously undefeated Broner -- Mayweather's buddy -- Khan's chances of landing the fight were doomed.
"Maidana has been in a lot of exciting fights and then he had the fight with Broner and there was a lot of fan reaction," Schaefer said. "So I think the fans had something to do with Floyd's decision. People want to see that fight. Maidana is a 147-pound champion, Floyd is a champion. A lot of people believe if Maidana connects it's good-night Floyd. But the question is can he connect?"
Said Leonard Ellerbe, chief executive of Mayweather Promotions, "This is an extremely dangerous fight for Floyd as Marcos Maidana is a technical knockout artist and continues to show us that he gets better with each fight. "Maidana showed so much in his last performance, he's clearly at the top of his game and a great matchup for Floyd."
Since a lopsided 10-round decision loss to Alexander in February 2012, Maidana has won four fights in a row, three by knockout, to put himself in position to get Mayweather, whom he has wanted to fight -- like every other fighter between 140 and 154 pounds. He has the power to hurt Mayweather, but Mayweather's speed and defense could be a big problem for him.
"Maidana is like the Energizer Bunny -- he keeps coming and coming and you can't stop him," Schaefer said. "Since he added Robert Garcia as his trainer, he has been even sharper.
A few weeks ago, Mayweather unveiled a poll on social media for fans to vote on his next opponent, Maidana or Khan. Although Khan won Mayweather's poll (57 percent to 43 percent), many other outlets conducted their own polls, including ESPN.com, and Maidana was the lopsided choice.
"I feel very disappointed for Amir. He is a terrific fighter," Schaefer said. "I think he has the necessary skill set to beat Floyd Mayweather because of his speed. Amir Khan will have a big fight. There are a lot of exciting opportunities in the 147-pound weight class.
"If you would have a crystal ball, you would say he probably should have fought Devon Alexander. But even if he did, Maidana looked spectacular in his fight with Adrien Broner."
On Friday, Khan, idle since a getting dropped in shaky decision win against faded former lightweight titlist Julio Diaz last April, sent a series of tweets in which he said he had been passed over by Mayweather.
"No response from Mayweather or his team," Khan tweeted. "Fights not happening. I should of taken the title fight last December against Alexander. Very disrespected by (Mayweather's) team. Wasted my time. Good luck to Maidana against Mayweather. Can I apologize to the thousands of people who are let down. You me and everyone wanted the Mayweather fight. He's running scared."
After Maidana defeated Broner, Broner had a contractual option for a rematch, which he exercised. However, powerful adviser Al Haymon works with Mayweather, Maidana and Broner and worked things out so Mayweather could face the opponent of his choice.
"What it took was conversations with all the parties and in the end, all the parties were happy with the outcome," Schaefer said. "Adrien will certainly have another big fight ahead of him, but the situation (with the Maidana-Broner rematch) was worked out among the involved parties. Adrien wasn't really jumping up and down about it, but it was explained to him and worked out. I have to thank Al for making it happen."

Thanks for the post AO ,I always thought it could be Maidana ,especially as Khan has never fought at welter before , of course it will be a case of "Bull V Matador"!, I know one thing that if I was in the "Bulls" corner ,I would tell Maidana that every time the "Matador" shows you the Shoulder bang it as hard as you can and his upper arm too, with a concussive puncher like the Bull after 5 rounds of that ,its bound to have an effect , I remember the unbeaten Marciano adopting the same method in a few of his fights to great success , Mayweather in many peoples opinion (including mine) is one of the best defensive fighters on the Planet ,however maybe he has an Achilles heel, his upper arm and Shoulder, what do I predict? Mayweather on points , after being chased all over the ring .

    Lovely !
Glad it's not Khan and look forward to more of his pea brain rants about being stood up.
As usual it will be everyones fault but his ..

Maidina had the brains to stay cool and say little , now gets the payday and chance,
but perhaps the only way he can win is if Mayweather hurts his hand or gets old real fast in the fight, probably wont happen ,,

I would hardly think that "Money" has handpicked his opponents throughout his career , like you I find his arrogance some what annoying at times maybe that comes from self belief who knows ,Floyd has met and beat the best without any doubts ,having said that I thought De La Hoya just about deserved to get the nod in a very close fight ,which would hardly have been a fight at all but for the "Golden Boy ,if you go onto "Box rec" you will plainly see that the fighters who Floyd beat reads like a "who's who" in his division

^Castillo should have gotten the nod in their first fight imo. (And he's avoided southpaw Pacquiao until he knows the Pacman is a spent force with too many miles on the clock in what should have been his biggest fight). Floyd these days is a much more experienced and better fighter though. I can't see Maidana winning one round unless he somehow manages to take Mayweather out of his game plan..
(He did it with Broner, so here's hoping anyway).

In other news, Bernard Hopkins has just signed for a unification fight with Shumanov on April 19th: Bernard Hopkins to fight Beibut Shumenov on April 19 - ESPN

If Hopkins wins this one and then gets to fight the eventual winner of the other 175lb champs Adonis Stevenson and Sergey Kovalev (if they get through their mandatory challengers first), he will be the first ever boxer to unify all four titles twice (he did it first beating De La Hoya in 2004) in the history of the sport. Aged 50 years old!
That is unprecedented in the history of sports, nevermind boxing. Amazing guy.

Quite true Kmart Castillo give Floyd all he could handle and more besides ,of Course any one who knows anything about the Noble art should know that Hopkins is truly a one off ,and as you say that goes for any sport , but Boxing !, what can one say ?, Bob Arum remarked only a short while ago in an interview ,that Floyd would NEVER fight Manny , whose up coming return with Bradley could answer a few questions as to whether he's a "shot" fighter or not , but taking into account Hopkins age, Manny is just a young boy !, on the domestic scene we can look forward to one of the biggest and very likely the most controversial fights of recent years the Froch V Groves return.

Yep, that interview with Arum was revealing in that Pacman's southpaw style would give Mayweather too much trouble. It will always be a "but what if" on Floyd's resume though.

Manny has been in some brutal battles with legendary tough fighters (and 1st time shoo-ins for Hall of Fame induction) like Barrera (twice); Erik Morales (losing 1 of the trilogy); Miguel Cotto, etc. Then there's the series of fights with Juan Manuel Marquez, the last one ending with that spectacular KO loss.
Pacman's full-on style of fighting and the journey up through 8 (thats 8) weight classes racks up the damage to a fighter's reflexes and longevity. His insane popularity and political campaign in the Philippines must be very draining also..
Hopkins is a very technical, sometimes dirty fighter that knows every way to win fights and not get hit. He has also stayed very close to his original Middleweight fighting limit, only going up gradually to Light Heavy. His fitness regimen is legendary, and if you look up the word "willpower" in the Collins dictionary, there ought to be a picture of the guy.

    Luis Collazo next for Khan?

looks skillful enuff to chin khan , who no doubt will be thinking too much about his mayweather date

Submitted by BoxRec News on Fri, 07/03/2014 - 19:36.

Amir Khan's next opponent could be former Ricky Hatton conquest Luis Collazo(35-5), who has recently signed with American Boxing supremo Al Haymon and is coming off a second-round knockout of Victor Ortiz on Jan. 30.
Collazo, 32, from Brooklyn, NY, could box Khan on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather’s clash with Marcos Maidana on May 3.
"I definitely proved that I should be considered part of the top tier of the welterweight division when I beat Victor Ortiz," he said.
"Another name that has been a part of that conversation for a long time is Amir Khan and I know that a fight against him would be huge for both of us and huge for the fans.
"Khan wants a shot at Floyd Mayweather and so do I. It could be a sort of welterweight playoff that would get the boxing world talking. And mark my words, I will knock Khan out like I did against Ortiz."
Collazo captured the WBA welterweight title back in 2005, which he lost to Ricky Hatton a year later. Other losses have come to ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley in 2007 and Andre Berto in 2009 while challenging for the WBC version.
By knocking out Victor Ortiz in the second round in January, Collazo recorded perhaps his career best win, and is unbeaten in his last four.

Thanks Blue ,according to many boxing scribes Collazo should have got the nod against Hatton , IMHO a draw would have been a good decision ,but that's gone now and this is the present , in my view if it comes off it will go the full distance as Neither are known "bangers" ,anyway all will be revealed in a week or two eh

I read today that Rubin "Hurricane" Carter is terminally ill with Cancer , I remember seeing him knock out wicked puncher Florentino Fernandez through the ropes and KO the late Emile Griffith , but he received a real mauling when he fought Dick Tiger and remarked after the fight it was the worst beating he had ever had ,inside or outside the ring !,, the Film "Hurricane" was as far fetched as shit from China in many ways Rubin 'Hurricane' Carter's condition worsens

Amir Khan has just signed for a fight on the undercard of Mayweather Maidana. I think he will lose having watched Collazo win a couple of weeks ago.

Amir Khan, Luis Collazo to fight

    Updated: March 24, 2014, 4:25 PM ET
    By Dan Rafael | ESPN.com

Former unified junior welterweight titleholder Amir Khan and former welterweight titlist Luis Collazo both want the same thing -- a shot at pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr.
There is no guarantee either will get the opportunity, but they can go a long way in making their case when they fight each other on the undercard of Mayweather's welterweight unification fight with Marcos Maidana on May 3 (Showtime pay-per-view) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Khan-Collazo will meet in a scheduled 12-round bout, Golden Boy Promotions announced Monday. The fight will serve as the co-feature on the Mayweather-Maidana pay-per-view and adds a high-profile bout to the card.
"Both Amir Khan and Luis Collazo have made it known that they want a shot at the winner of the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana, so what better way for them to prove that they're next," Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer said.
Khan believed he was going to get the May fight with Mayweather, so much that he pulled out of a December title shot against Devon Alexander. But Maidana upset Adrien Broner to win a welterweight title in December and Mayweather picked Maidana instead. Mayweather said that if Khan wanted to fight him, he would have to earn it and encouraged him to fight on his undercard.
So Khan (28-3, 19 KOs), 27, of England, took him up on it, and the fight with Collazo (35-5, 18 KOs), 32, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was made.
Idle since April, Khan is in need of an impressive performance after going 2-2 in his last four bouts. In December 2011, he lost a controversial decision and his junior welterweight title to Lamont Peterson and then got knocked out by Danny Garcia in a July 2012 title fight. He has won twice since, stopping Carlos Molina in the 10th round and outpointing Julio Diaz despite getting knocked down, but struggled in both fights.
"I'm looking forward to fighting in Las Vegas once again, and my intention on May 3 is to make a statement that I belong on this big stage," said Khan, who will be fighting at the 147-pound welterweight limit for the first time. "Luis Collazo might be coming off of a big win, but I am in incredible shape and am ready for this challenge. A win on May 3 is what I need to prove that I truly am one of the best welterweights in the sport."
Collazo, who held a welterweight world title from 2005 to 2006, put himself back in the title picture with his fourth win in a row on Jan. 30, knocking out former titleholder Victor Ortiz -- a past Mayweather victim -- in the second round.
"Defeating Victor Ortiz in January was just the beginning," Collazo said. "Facing and beating Amir Khan on the biggest stage in the sport is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I will take full advantage of this and put myself in the best position to face the winner of the main event. I hope Khan is ready because Brooklyn is coming to take him down."
The last time Khan and Collazo boxed in Las Vegas they each lost. Khan suffered a fourth-round knockout to Garcia, and Collazo lost a near-shutout decision to Shane Mosley in 2007.
Schaefer said the bout was finalized over the weekend and that both fighters realize the opportunity they have to make a statement on Mayweather's undercard.
"Collazo is coming off the great performance against Victor. He's flying high, and he is ready. He wanted a big fight," Schaefer said. "He's not only getting a big fight but getting a big fight on the biggest stage in boxing. He's been waiting for it, and now here it comes.
"For Amir Khan to move up and fight a natural welterweight, a former champion, certainly shows that he's serious about making noise in the 147-pound division. Amir and [trainer] Virgil [Hunter] don't want to just win. They want to make a big statement. I know Amir is fired up. Collazo is fired up. It's a terrific addition to the card and shows the commitment from Floyd to make these big fights happen and to put together these stacked cards. Floyd's nickname is 'Money,' and that is what it took to make this fight."
Schaefer said although there is no commitment from Mayweather to fight the Khan-Collazo winner if he beats Maidana, the winner will be in prime position. Mayweather is slated to fight again in September.
"Look what's happened in the past," Schaefer said. "You saw Canelo [Alvarez] fighting on Floyd's undercards, and he got the fight with him [and lost in September]," Schaefer said. "Being on a Floyd card, where you have huge amounts of people watching, increases your popularity in the U.S."
The two other undercard bouts that will be part of the pay-per-view are not finalized yet but should be this week.
Fights in the works are Broner against Molina in a junior welterweight fight and super middleweight J'Leon Love against Marco Antonio Periban.
Broner (27-1, 22 KOs), 24, of Cincinnati, is planning to drop down in weight in the wake of his welterweight title loss to Maidana in December. Molina (17-1-1, 7 KOs), 28, of Norwalk, Calif., has not fought since Khan stopped him in the 10th round in December 2012.
Love (17-0, 10 KOs), 26, of Detroit, is a Mayweather protégé coming off a dominant 10th-round knockout win against Vladine Biosse on Feb. 28. Periban (20-1-1, 13 KOs), 29, of Mexico, is as rugged a fighter as they come. He lost a majority decision to Sakio Bika challenging for a vacant super middleweight world title in June and followed with a draw against Badou Jack, another Mayweather-promoted fighter, in September.

What a bill eh!, no doubt it will be on "True TV" and certainly some thing to look forward to, they way I see the "big fight" is that Mayweather will do what he does best (get on his bike) and outbox Maidana , for me "money" will just have too much much of everything for the Argentinian slugger , having said that I would love to see "money" taste canvas , just to show that he's not as invincible as he thinks he is .

    Amir Khan vs Luis Collazo
    4 May

I would have Collazo as the favourite , way more experienced , was close in his losses to hatton and perhaps even robbed against Berto, and has fought 2 times snce both he and khan had fights last april, and khans never fought at welter..

    Bookies in uk think different

    Amir Khan 1/4 (-400 American ?)

    Draw 25/1 ( +2500 )

    Luis Collazo 3/1 ( +300 )

^Well worth a punt. Collazo has an awkward style that has given every opponent problems. He also seems to have added punching power to his arsenal, destroying Victor Ortiz last time out.

Yeah Kmart 3 to 1 Collazo seem over generous to me , Luis is a solid pro who seems to have discovered a punch , mind you I seem to remember he had Hatton on queer street in one of the later rounds only to lose a debatable decision ,loads of good fights coming up , the one that really grabs me is the "return" Groves V Froch , I see Chavez Jnr is scheduled to fight Golovkin at super Middleweight ,with a proviso if Chavez does not make 168 he has to forfeit a cool Million dollars !!!

Certainly is. Khan being such an irritatingly arrogant paki makes it a head and heart bet

a bit of good news to hear the loud mouth anthony (the man) mundine was given a good flogging by joshua clotty at newcastle australia.
mundine was outclassed big time, knocked down five times, result was unanimous points. should be the end of mundine and good riddance to him.

    Noooooooooooooooooooooo

Easy fight for Khan. The old fella is slow and his right hand drags the floor, he will get whacked, whacked and whacked some more. A stoppage by round 4 or 5. Tooooo easy.
