DVD advice

Am looking for a DVD recorder that plays WinMediaPlayer and also other formats from regular data DVD compilations without getting too cranky, also prefer if auto accepts all regions without too much fidgeting, and of course whatever any other useful/recomended features. Also must be foolproof, very foolproof.
