Saw this in the news and thought some of you might want to send in an application. I'd like this Job!

An Australian state is offering internationally what it calls "the best job in the world" -- earning a top salary for lazing around a beautiful tropical island for six months.

The job pays 150,000 Australian dollars (105,000 US dollars) and includes free airfares from the winner's home country to Hamilton Island on the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland's state government announced on Tuesday.

In return, the "island caretaker" will be expected to stroll the white sands, snorkel the reef, take care of "a few minor tasks" -- and report to a global audience via weekly blogs, photo diaries and video updates.

The successful applicant, who will stay rent-free in a three-bedroom beach home complete with plunge pool and golf buggy, must be a good swimmer, excellent communicator and be able to speak and write English.

"They'll also have to talk to media from time to time about what they're doing so they can't be too shy and they'll have to love the sea, the sun, the outdoors," said acting state Premier Paul Lucas.

"The fact that they will be paid to explore the islands of the Great Barrier Reef, swim, snorkel and generally live the Queensland lifestyle makes this undoubtedly the best job in the world."

I have heard mix reviews as well but everyone back home is raving about it so I can't wait to see it myself.

No that is because it was filmed in my hometown and they had the official opening of at at the local drive in to coincide with with the opening at Sydney. They ran it free of charge for 7 nights straight.

Just about every local had something to do with the movie. I made money before hand selling photos to newspapers and then rented my house out for $1,700 a week and took off to Thailand!

Nicole Kidman is reported to have squirmed watching this movie. She reckons it is a flop.
    Poor Nicole.

My nephews watched it when I was in Sydney two weeks ago and they thought it was great . . . others I have spoken to thought it was awful . . . didn't really want to see it yet, I'll wait until it is on DVD.

You haven't seen it yet, MeMock? You must really live out in the boondocks! Can't you drive to the nearest big city to watch it? I've seen it twice now. Can't get enough of a certain Australian chap.

baldrick, I take it you haven't seen it then

PB, no I haven't seen it yet. I have been in a bad way health wise but I think even if I was healthy it wouldn't have made any difference as Ubon (2.5 hrs away) said they weren't showing it when I called them a few weeks ago.
