The thing that people seem to have a hard time understanding here is that there is no set "American" breakfast. It could be vastly different by region. In NYC, you mention breakfast and someone might hand you a bagel with cream cheese and lox. Down south, it could be grits or biscuits and gravy. In Texas or New Mexico it could be huevos rancheros. I grew up eating omelets with smoked salmon for breakfast.
The fact is that English breakfast has to contain specific items to earn its name. There is no counterpart in America.
