A hamover omelette.
A hamover omelette.
Chequers on Soi 4 does a superb Full English for soaking up the excess and mild shame of the night before. I appreciate that I can have a beer to ride sidecar with me coffee.
Hash brown are quite possibly the worst concoction one can serve with a full Monty.
They are wrong in so many ways, probably why they've never caught on in the UK.
McDonalds keep flogging them with their breakfast deals but then they mostly go in the bin.
I must say Genticles post inspired me to have scrambled eggs today, his talents are truly wasted in the Brexit bile thread and belong firmly in the kitchen.
Shalom
If you really need spuds with breakfast, hash n eggs. Otherwise why bother?
Bacon, mushrooms, beans, tomatoes, and eggs are the core to a Full English, to be eaten with toast and a cup of tea. The rest are nice extras but are not necessities for me.
I'll cut up leftover new potatoes from the night before and and to the breakfast fry-up.
Baked beans have to be cooked long enough to be mushy rather than have the juice seen in the OP's photo.
Eggs can be scrambled or poached for a change to fried.
Sausages have to be thick rather than chipolatas and I prefer Lincolnshire with a dab of Colman's.
Black pudding is a nice change but I can live without it.
I haven't eaten fried bread for over 30 years.
" i would green you for that Troy.
I think Hash browns are a wonderful seppo addition to the fry-up line-up.
I cannot get my head around chips on a breakfast plate but hash browns are perfect. They soak up more hot oil to make the eggs extra greasy on the plate.
Hash browns make a much better carbs side than toast or fried bread for the eggs to sit on. Potato scones are even better and carbier and doughy with their flour and butter mixed in.
I am not really down with these beans in a bowl. The heinz beans should be drizzled over the snags imho. The bowl business is frankly a tad gay and worrying.
This is precisely why Rosella edges it over Heinz in the tomato sauce stakes for me. I will try and track down some Daddies as I love HP but I am not sure we have it down under.
Absolutely essential with a fry-up no-matter what time of day or night it is eaten.
I was doing a Full English and scorched up some fried bread - 'er indoors (Thai) was totally amazed - "I never see before" !
Hasbrowns are shit and the oval deep fried crap that McDonald's sells goes right in the bin. I mean what the hell are those things anyway? Now dicing up some potatoes and cooking them with some onions to a golden brown with a light salt and pepper dash is outstanding. Goes perfect with a nice omelette and bacon or ham steak. Toss back a nice glass of fresh squeezed OJ and you are good to go.
Whenever I eat breakfast at a Diner, I always order the same thing. Corned beef Hash and Home fries, (both fried crispy) two eggs over easy, and a bottle of tabasco sauce please.
when making my own, Those new potatoes they sell in a can make excellent home fries , sliced, and fried in olive oil, with chopped onions ,a touch of oregano, salt and pepper. Hormel corned beef hash , I tried making my own but it was not the same.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.
Well I've been having an American Breakfast almost every day in this ASQ, and if I never see another one in my life that's fine by me.
It's shite.
Let's see how this compares to my Full English when I get released on Saturday.
That is not in anyway an American breakfast mate. That is crap served to you cold.
It says American Breakfast on the menu!
8 french fries one day. Big day the next time with 10. Don't believe a thing they tell you. Cold as well.
Tbf that looks better than an American breakfast
The thing that people seem to have a hard time understanding here is that there is no set "American" breakfast. It could be vastly different by region. In NYC, you mention breakfast and someone might hand you a bagel with cream cheese and lox. Down south, it could be grits or biscuits and gravy. In Texas or New Mexico it could be huevos rancheros. I grew up eating omelets with smoked salmon for breakfast.
The fact is that English breakfast has to contain specific items to earn its name. There is no counterpart in America.
That sounds spot on to me. TD won't allow me to green you at the moment.
I don't enjoy the modern style of hash browns but leftover potatoes are fine. If there is mash then a small patty of fried mash is good, as bubble and squeak even better.
As someone else mentioned, fried bread needs beef dripping to work, also the right kind of bread. When it is done well I like the texture. I have tried it here with bacon fat and in other ways, none of which has been very successful.
I still see people taking a swipe at English cuisine. What they are missing is that the Full English, along with a roast dinner and various other English dishes, gives the consumer a wide range of taste and texture options all on the same plate and the ability to vary the ratios of each, to personal preference. Two people can sit and eat their way through the Full English and enjoy it differently. To me this is where English cooking stands out.
