    Air Fryer Delights!

We bought an air fryer in order to add more fish to our diet without a lingering fishy odor in the condo: it was a spectacular success! First, we prepared various "soft" veggies (zucchini, okra, Chinese broccoli, local sweet chili peppers, etc) before trying the hard veggies (carrots, squash). I brushed on a mixture of EVOO, minced garlic and black pepper. When they were done, into the air fryer went 2 pieces of Tasmanian salmon with fresh dill. Succulent salmon with little fishy fragrance. The process, the result:

Good idea but you didn't have an oven already ?

and air fryer is an oven with a big fan, nothing more, nothing magic, nothing that cannot be done with a standard oven.

It's weird for me that people can live without at least a small electric oven, what are you usually eating ? only $hit fried food ?
you can cook everything in a 1000 thb oven, chicken, fish, french fries, etc... But yes, Thai know nothing about ovens and only eat their $hit fried food. Poor them to be so clueless.

They do look to be in a rather poor condition.

Air fryers/convection ovens are da bomb! I got one a couple of months ago and use it all the time. Makes GREAT fries. Cooked a whole chicken which came out beautiful. I even cooked a steak in it!

And, like TC says, no smelly kitchen.

    Air Fryer Delights!-spuds-jpg

This one was for Topper. Parboil the spuds, drain and with the lid back n the pan give it a shake. All being well the spuds will get a little flaking around the edges. Sometimes it goes wrong and they crumble into mush.

Then spray on a little oil and into the airfryer with a couple of large chicken legs.

    Air Fryer Delights!-roasts-jpg

Those flaky bits crisp up nicely.

Not bad for a first effort. TBH, not in the same league as spuds roasted in duck fat in a conventional oven, although probably the best in Nongbualamphu this week.

Having got a few basics to work in the air fryer and being bored witless in deepest Isan I decided it was time to atempt bread. I don't recall ever having made bread before.

    Air Fryer Delights!-dough-jpg

Step 1: make some dough and knead it until your arms fall off.
Nothing fancy here, only all-purpose flour and standard baking yeast.

    Air Fryer Delights!-inthetin-jpg

Step 2: Go away and read a couple of books while the dough rises. Then knead it briefly a second time and shape it for the tin. Cover and let it rise again. Then whack it in the air fryer for nearly 20 minutes.

This is a new tin and a first effort so I wasn't too surprised that the doughball was smaller than the tin. I had expected it to be the other way around, that I'd have some dough surplus to requirements. Next time, if there is a next time, I'll adjust the quantities.

    Air Fryer Delights!-bread-jpg

Step 3: Admire the result. More like a large roll than a small loaf, it was at least edible.

Overall it was a lot of work and a lot of cleaning up in the kitchen. On the other hand, I had naff all else to do and I know exactly what went into it. I was sufficiently pleased to have done it for myself and I'll definitely have another try soon.

The Air Fryer is only good to the user with a bit of common cooking scene.

Most on here would be dumbstruck.

You need to spray everything with oil before you cook it in the air fryer

Air Fryer is fantastic no need to preheat like you have to do with an oven , in the morning breakfast i put the onion rings garlic mushrooms and sausages in the air fryer , Happy Days
I am not a liberator , Liberators do not exist , The people liberate themselves , Ernesto Che Guevara .

If the results are as the vegetables in the OP then I'll give it a miss. I don't mind putting in a little more effort for far greater reward.

^thanks. Its where i could not decide. Get a cheaper model and see how it goes and upgrade later, or just go for the high end Phillips.

Surely the quality of the food produce going in to the fryer is of greater importance to the final outcome.

I would have thought that great produce in a crap frier probably generates crap food. But as noted, this is a new area for me.

I'm not so sure. I would expect that a lower priced fryer produces just as good results than a more expensive fryer, dependent on quality of raw produce of course. Maybe the more expensive fryers are of a better build quality, possibly larger, have a few more bells and whistles, but I can cook you a steak on a piece of chicken wire over an oil drum that will taste just as good as I can do on a top end grill.

Exactly, no big difference, just bigger and more watt for some.

    Otto is enough for most.

Anyway people who know how to cool good food do not need an air fryer :-)
