^ That looks like a pretty decent brunch to me. Waitress obviously knew you were on a diet and scoffed a few chips on the way over...and the black pudding!
It must be viewed as some sort of luxury item in Thailand.
I remember watching a farang in Hau Hin take a table full of locals out for a meal, everyone of the Thais enthusiastically replied "YES" to having a fried egg on top of their meal.
The farang declined much to the astonishment of his guests.
They said no more, well he was paying for their meal.
Any farang that has a fried egg on a meal other than breakfast has gone native!:spin:
I fear you're overlooking the egg on a gammon steak.
^ You get both in the Robin Hood!
Have been doing a bit of travelling in the Low Countries. We had some lovely, hearty lunches while we were there.

Dutch beef stew with chips (and the obligatory mayonnaise on the side for dipping the chips that haven't been soaked by the stew).

I couldn't get enough of this pea and ham soup.

Mussels in a fairly spicy broth (reminded me of Korea- very tasty and preferable to mariniere IMHO). And the mussels were MASSIVE!
The American mind really cannot comprehend moisture and flavour on the same plate like we Europeans can.

This spicy mango sauce was magic

Looks nice.
Will you be posting the photos you sent Chitty and he posted as his own Amsterdam trip? :)
:)
I actually read on here that Chitty was there at the same time and we actually went to the same restaurant and ordered exactly the same thing!

How weird is that?
:)

That pea and ham soup with the smoked ham on rye on the side...
Getting a bit big for your britches there mate.
The Italian American Yank version includes not only mussels, but also crab, clams, scallops and generally halibut.
Cioppino.

Some excellent looking scran there hal. But if we are to talk mussels then I have to inform you that chilli mussell's are usually on the go most weekends at blds gaff. 2 kilos of black (live) mussels for $14.00.cant go wrong. Love the greenlips to but damn the black ones are way tasty
Do.i only get 1 post? Before the message I entered is to short?
They appear contracted and overcooked, which makes them chewy and tough, just the way you Brits like your protein apparently, easy to do if you have no fucking clue what you are doing. Fortunately, we have the best mussels in the world here, so the chefs know how to properly cook them.
Do the Europeans know that you island monkeys are trying to latch onto their cuisine?
:smileylaughing:
I love it, and we have some great renditions of it here in Seattle.
The best I had was in San Francisco, where the dish originates. Simply amazing.
I lived in Europe for 7 years, stop telling ridiculous lies, it just makes you look like an idiot.
You are fucking clueless, you ate at Denny's the entire time you were in the US. You would not know fresh seafood if it bit you in the ass.
Fished into oblivion and there is no commercial Atlantic salmon fishery, you fucking utter moron.
I can't claim to be a schoolboy, but I always derive great pleasure when asking if the 'hoy' are fresh!
Snicker
I will grow up one day?
Downtrodden 50 baht an hour TEFLer business lunch. And I didn't even have to wash the dishes to cover the bill!

Fat bastard!
22°, blue skies. Light breeze. Fucking marvelous indeed!
Man o man. Oysters look delicious. I just had a half dozen a few days ago at the waterfront with my wife. She had scallops.
Weather looks perfect. Today is our first rain of the season.
Yeah, yeah, of course you do ...
Meanwhile, I'd rather have the ones from 1) Brittany, France or 2) Galicia, Spain. The best two regions I know for mussels and having them properly cooked.
I wouldn't say you've had the best mussels until you've been to La Lycorne, Dinan in Brittany. A lovely restaurant with an excellent variety of sauces and friendly service. I can't make the journey there every year any longer, but it was one of those must do events in the winter season months...November being my favorite time for mussels as well as oysters, which requires a small trip to the coastal town of Cancale. A place you have to visit before stating you've had the best oysters in the world.
We're they wild mussels?
That is the question...
^ Have you ever tried to tame a freaking mussel?
Come to think of it, I wonder if Snubby has pet mussels in his basement...
These were oysters, Joe.
