I walked around Tops in Samut Prakarn today for about an hour looking at all the oils and shit ranging from corn oil to canola to the Italian stuff and the Thai stuff and still have no idea. Seems the good stuff is 4 times the price of the other stuff and when you consider commercial cooking you must consider the bottom line.

As a perfectionist I only want the best but who else will pay the extra price?

Now looking at importing oil in bulk but we need a licence.

Have no answers charleyboy unless you have an import licence and we can do a legal deal?

Looking for Bisto Gravy in bulk also! Can you help us out mate?

Bisto powder...the taste comes from your ingredients.

Lard...no import licence required and I don't know any chef worth his salt that uses oil in the production of pastry!

Buying Bisto in bulk why would anyone want to buy in bulk when its already in the country and Gravy mixes in Thailand is a lot cheaper and better.

I don't know about availability in Thailand but in the UK I use avocado oil. Great for frying and with red wine vinegar as a simple salad dressing.

If we are talking chips or cod and chips ,probably the best place in Thailand is around that lake and is called Laylas Place.

Proper chips all different shapes and cooked in duck fat

Google the reviews or especially go and try them yourself

Did we determine what, in the absence of lard, is the best oil for deep frying?

Make your own "Bisto", (or similar).
This recipe was something I cooked up on the farm, sick of using Vegemite or Marmite (better) when Oxo cubes or gravy browning ran out, the shops were 40 miles away.

    Ingredients.
Potato water, from mealy potatoes broken up as they simmer after cooking, it's got a cloudy appearance, reduce the liquid on a low heat, stir with a wooden spatula to avoid burning, until pasty, place to one side to cool, this paste then spread on baking tray in an open oven at 100 C for half an hour until dry, then powdered.

Wheat flour starch, from sifted fresh ground wheat, boiled in water to get the starch. Reduce by simmering, follow same process as making potato powder, above.

Brewer's yeast, either buy it or make your own from the residue of last brew you made, which can be reduced by drying in an open oven at 100 c.

Onions, boiled and mashed in the water then simmered. Sieve the cooled liquid through a cloth into a small pan and reduce to a paste, dry at 100 c in an open oven..

Sugar, caramelized by heating in an open pan, watch it doesn't burn.

    Salt, to taste.

2 tablespoons of potato starch (or half a cup of thickened reduced potato paste)
2 ditto of wheat starch (or half a cup of reduced wheat paste)
2 ditto of dry brewer's yeast ( or 6 < 10 of thick brew residue)
2 ditto of onion powder ( or half < one cup of onion paste)
1 teaspoon of caramelized sugar (more if you want a darker gravy)
    1 teaspoon (or to taste).
Mix the lot together, it'll keep for months if kept in an airtight jar and/or chilled.

    Use as required.

The quality and range of food in restaurants in the UK has greatly improved since you were last in our great Island, a vibrant foody scene all over the country, we don't settle for shit anymore, those days are long gone.
