Common name: Eye-spot barb
Scientific name: Hampala dispar Smith
Size: Up to 20 inches (50 cm), but usually smaller in aquaria - around 14 inches (35 cm)
Feeding: (Carnivore) Most foods accepted, but prefer small live/frozen foods (small shrimp and small fish).
Climate: Tropical; 24 - 28?C
Distribution: In South-East Asia, Endemic to the Mekong basin.
Tank Set-up: A 120 cm (4 ft) tank will be sufficient to raise a few juveniles, but realistically a tank 180 cm (6ft) in length is required to allow these fish to thrive once they reach adult size.
Behavior: Despite its eventual size, this is a peaceful community fish. It is preferable to keep them as a shoal, though this requires a very large tank eventually. May be harassed by more territorial tank mates, such as Red-tailed black sharks.
