    Animals for Sale

In my local market they have some stalls that look like this

those hundreds of plastic cups contain something edible?

yes, you can eat them but these ones are special

    they are fighting Atlas beetles

they put two of these males on a log and let them at each other

in the stall they are all tethered to peeled sugar cane

    I have reported your post

    Is that a serious question?

    Insects are animals, not plants

Us kids would go and collect the wee manglers and have stag beetle fights during school recesses, yup, we bet on them and all, bet anything, pocket money, pens, marbles.
Some horrendous holes got punctured in them at times. Kept them in our pencil boxes with a piece of banana.

    Gruesome.

(Actually it might not be a fight - more of a "bunch up".)

I don't have any pictures to add but there are certainly some very 'exotic' and rare animals for sale at JJ market.

I'll prob pop there sometime next week and I'll take some pics. I go mid week to avoid the weekend crowds as the fish / animal section is open everyday.
