Good stuff, made from fermented honey. The drink of the Middle Ages!
I bet there was much rejoicing after a night on the mead.
Mead is a tasty drink indeed.
I moved this to Food & Drink and changed the title. I hope that's ok Danbo.
^ He wont even notice, he is totally out of it most of the time, well at least I hope he is, if he isn't then he probably should be in a mental instituition
Who said what about what now?......."Nurse!"
I do enjoy some cider actually, snakebite goes down a treat.
This evening I am imbibing Henry Weston's Special Reserve 8.2%....Yes that's 8.2% you folk at the back of the hall....what do you mean the acoustics in here are terrible!? It's your own fault you should have bought a better ticket....I SAID "YOU SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT........"
Back off Margaret, you're on a sugar rush!
I'm sorry, could you repeat that? CMN was talking.
I've just opened a 'Merrydown Medium' (7.5%)...now, I oniy bought this because Tesco was out of the 'Thatcher's' which I like a great deal....Anyhow, it's not bad....bit sweet for the cat and me. The 'Merrydown Dry' is much better....I like cider the dryer the better, as I do my bath towels, and my deserts....no point in ordering a dessert in a restaurant and it comes up all wet....unless it's called 'An Oasis'....And that's not the band Oasis of course....I can't really imagine a pudding based around the Gallagher brothers....But no doubt someone has or will; that's the type of world we live in; one where fellow clever-monkeys who can play guitars are deemed worthy of having sugary confections named after them....I despair, I really do....no honestly, sometimes I really do, I despair....Anyway, 'Fridge-Magnets' - has this idea been taken up yet?....Cider's....Okay
Oh dear a bit of a hangover....from the Merrydown I suspect. I also had a space-out last night where I had to lay down because the room was spining around my head. Today I will head to Threshers, they always have a good selection of cider, they may even have scrumpy - I will report back.
That's what you get for sleeping on a top.
Just Cracked this one open for my lunch.
I will be horizontal here later this afternoon.
^Good to see your foresight in preparing the colouring book and Thomas The Tank Engine building blocks dave....It's never a good idea to get up and go looking for toys to play with after drinking cider.
Well, what a find! This morning I popped into Waitrose - this is a posh-shop that I wouldn't normally venture into, maybe just look longingly through the window at the nabobs of the shire buying their pate made out of the tears of geese....or whatever it is they eat. Anyhow there was a complete rack of cider and perry. I was like an alcoholic in an off-license as the saying goes. I passed on the 3 litre keg of scrumpy (7%) - best saved for a day with no work on the morrow. I did however, in the interests of research, pur-chase a selection of bottles - pictures to follow when my camera batteries charge - and I work out how to use the camera.
These two bottles are empty. I have no idea why. I woke up on the floor this morning with a slight headache and a slice of cold pizza stuck to the side of my head to find that these two bottles had been mysteriously emptied. The one on the left is Thatcher's Vintage Fine Somerset Cider (7.4%). This is great value, about 121 B for 750ml. The one on the right is Henry Weston's Special Reserve (8.2%) about 110B for 500ml (both from Tesco). The Westons is v.nice but dererves respect...or fear. The label says that it is suitable for vegetarians and vegans - it is not - it will make them drunk.
Here is today's selection from Waitrose. Price range about 100-130B, alcohol content ranging from 8% for the perry to 6% for the Taylor's Gold. Not sure how today is going to go. Well I have an idea....the things I do for TeakDoor! If cider wasn't fruit-juice (and therefore healthy) I wouldn't be taking part is in this taste-test....bloody hell I was looking forward to watching the Brazil Agrentina game later....I'm going to have trouble finding what corner of the room the tele is at....
The perry has gone - not bad, an earthy taste, not at all sweet considering the 8% content. Just started on the Dabinett Apple, and I quote, "Originating in the Martock area of Somerset this apple is of a high quality...blah blah....produces an abundance of rich sweet....blah blah......bodied taste which lends itself well to a medium style of cider...."....A liitle bit unprofessional to put all the 'blahs' on the label IMO, but I guess that they don't expect too many cider drinkers to be able to read.
Picked up this cheeky little number today.
