A nice get-out for you Aussies then. You can blame your awful beer on them.

Aussie win in 'World Cup' of beer

    July 07, 2006

A WORLD Cup-style competition to find the best beer has named an Australian-made sparkling ale as the winner.

The competition, run by the UK publication Off Licence News, pitted beers from 32 countries that contested soccer's World Cup against each other.
The drinks were placed in one of eight groups of four, to correspond with the World Cup, with the two top-scoring beverages moving to the second round and knock out tastings.
Marks were awarded for taste, appearance, balance and drinkability, with a sparkling ale produced by South Australian brewer Coopers named the eventual winner.
Coopers marketing director and chairman Glenn Cooper said despite Australia's controversial elimination from the World Cup, he took comfort in the knowledge Australia had snared "the more important World Cup".
    good old coopers.

Coopers is by FAR the best Ozzy beer.

The rest (except for maybe cascade) are awful.

NZ has many tasty beers. I think due to the cooler weather needed for good hops, and the high quality water used. A reason one of the better ozzy beers is the Tasmanian 'Cascade'.

Steinlager, Speights Old Dark, Macs, DB Export, Lion Red, Canabury Draught, Waikato draught are a few.

Each town has it's own too often.

In oz about 15 beers dominate the market thanks to HUGE liscencing fees, so no real competition pushing up quality.

As previously stated 'Boags' has it all over Cascade and IMO rivals Coopers for the best beer in Aus.

Some of those kiwi beers aren't all that flash either.
Never liked steinlager myself and that DB export you can keep, and isn't Lion Red what 'Jake the Mus' was drinking?

A gassy beer will never win me over, so Coopers will always be second rate to my tastes.

I wouldn't mind trying the stout though. There must be one product that they haven't managed to fek up.

The Stout's great, still missing fromt he shelves up here though. All that's left is the shit pale ale. a nice "light beer" tho. The Sparkling ale is a decent breakfast beer, good with a nice big breakfast, instead of orange juice.

My old man used to drink that when I was a kid, so it must be allright to have lasted that long.

I had a testing session at an australian pub here in Hamburg some time ago and I tested all australian brands that were available. I just cannot remember which I liked most, but I am sure it wasn't Foster's.

Marmite,,you are a nice guy but unfortunately you don't know too much about beer. OSH is quite nice I have to admit but all the best beers are of the Pilsener variety and thus pretty gassy.

One of the best Ozzie beers ever is Red Back. From Mathilda Bay, where ever that is. lt is a wheat beer, a bit darker than usual, but a clean, crisp taste.

When l was there in April l tried about 10 different beers. l will have to check with the family on what beers l did taste. One was sensational, a name something like Mountain Goat. A boutique beer, in Melbourne, it was fruity, almost like a mix of strawberry and apple in it. that sounds strange, but it was quite and very refreshing.

When I tell an Aussie this they laugh.
What's really funny is that the FOSTERS sold in the US is actually brewed in Canada.Of course this allows the distributor to sell it as imported beer. On a related note the KIRIN sold in the US is also deported from Canada.
