    A beach in Bangkok? Rearry???

Bollox, I hear you say, there are no beaches in Bangkok! Well let me prove you wrong.

I had toyed with the idea of going to Koh Sichang today but an old mate from Hong Kong turned up on my door step at 2am this morning so that was that idea fooked.

Here he is asleep on my driveway at 5.30am this morning.

So I'd heard about this beach that was supposed to be in bangkok, so I thought I'd try to find it. Today was more of a confidence building exercise for my dog Ninja, who has never really been exposed to the outside world without other dogs around her.

The beach is at the end of the road called Bang Khun Tien, just off Rama 2.

Here's me and Ninja, ready for the long journey.

Then after the long 10km drive, we were there

This was not actually the beach but a Thai style museum. This is actually a Dolphin conservation area, I think that Thai dolphins look a bit weird, they're not you classic flipper style dolphin, all cute and telling you that Jimmy is caught in a whirl pool.

2 of the best trained Turtles I've ever seen. I don't know how they stay so still.

    A really old dolphin.

    And a Ninja Turtle

This apparently was once a small whale.

This is what we are looking for but if this was taken in 1866 then I don't fancy my chances. Also, a bit of a strange backpack for a dolphin.

Still no beach and the wife got a bit David Bailey with the camera. Never trust a girl to do anything right.

It must be a kind of breeding area. Still no Dolphins, or beach

Here's some BEACH!!!! Well more of a mangrove really.

The beach went on for meters and meters. As far as the eye could see without my glasses on. I'd gone there with low expectations but was blown away by the turquoise blue waters and sand so white it was like the driven snow.

More arty stuff from the wife.

The road leading to the beach.

There were some birds in this shot but they flew off.

    An estuary.

Some mud. Still can't believe I'm Bangkok

On the way home, a nice looking temple. Wat Something Something.

Luckily the local police were nice. The road block was a bit hairy, I got quite nervous but they didn't find find my stash of honey.

I asume this must be the exit point to the sea of the Chaopraya but I'm ready to stand corrected.

    And then they way home

All in all a really good trip. Only about 10+Km from the house and the dog really enjoyed it. I think I've been for all of us so there is no real need to visit unless your a dolphin enthusiast that doesn't mind not seeing dolphins.

So next time your down the pub putting the world to rights with your mate, lay a bet on the closest beach to Bangkok, show them this thread and claim your 100 baht.

What went on there then? You left him ouside all night? You don't have a doorbell? The dog didn't bark?

Reminds me of a time I was forced on a trip to Canvey Island...

Good effort with the pics though, and nice to see the dog looks happy.

Is this the area that has a few restaurants? You gotta get a boat out to them, but they're supposed to be really good.

No, he actually turned up at my bar and was so drunk that the only way I could leave the bar was to take him home. We bought a few beer from family mart and got a bit wasted. Him more than me.

Actually, and please don't take this as a gross insult , you look like a bit of a Tefler. .................................................. ..

    haha, great narrative. cheers.

when you said 'the beach in Bangkok' I though you meant this place - Suan Siam - Siam Park. Which goes by that nickname.

Nice, emmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...... Dog in the pic mate.

Who do they, I mean the dog belong too?

By the way I built a house out that way about 12 years ago which was subsequently lost to gambling debts by my previous wife.

Did you get attacked by the monkeys when you were walking through those Mangroves?

We were warned by the crazy museum guard to watch out for monkeys but we did't see any.

As for this and the damaged area, who went first?

Hopefully there will be laws against this soon....

I think it is but we weren't really looking for them. I think I saw them on the Anthony Bordaine show, No Reservations or something like that.

The Bangkok Sea marks the edge of the city boundary and this restaurant is perched on bamboo stilts just inside the marker. It is ranked amongst the very best in Bangkok by culinary experts & getting there is part of the experience. First by car, then take a long-tail boat and finally a short walk.

By chance, I was invited there on Sunday, but couldn't make it. Actually, it's the third time I've been invited by a friend who says it's a great place. I hope to go soon. Maybe next weekend.

Any clues on the boat trip; the missus doesn't like little boats. How long, how dodgy?

We got to the bottom of the road and the first sign for Sea View tells you to go left, and then the next sign at the end of the road tells you to go right, So we went left and couldn't find anything, the end of the road is just after the Winnie the Poo pic. So we U-Turned and went right, followed the signs for the Dolphin View, which also run out after a while and we couldn't find the sea view restaurant at all. So where is it?

The boat trip is great...takes about 30 minutes and includes a loop around the boundary marker for Bangkok city.
Costs 50 baht each on the weekend. Not sure how often the boat goes during the week.

Here's the link to their restaurant...it's all in Thai but if you call the number of the website the guy speaks good English and he can tell you where it is. You must have passed it because it's on the left as you progress down that road that you took. There's a huge sign which directs you into the carpark! the website has a good map...

Oh. If you go make sure you print the discount voucher from the website. Worth 10% to you in the restaurant.

Because on the way home when we picked her up we were trying to come up with a name and the conversation went like this.

Wifes Friend: You could call her Nin.

    Me: What does that mean?

Wifes Friend: Its the Thai name for a black gem stone, like the one that set in gold and your dad probably wears.

Me: Nah I don't really like that name.

Wife: But I like that name (and she tried calling the puppy to see if it would respond) Nin, Nin Jah, Nin Jah.

    Me: Ninja, spot on.
