Hidden gem in Sam Roy Yod.

Hi everyone, ive traveled extensively in Thailand and have seen a lot of
great places...and some not so great.
Ive recently returned from a visit to the Pranburi area and am wondering
why it took me so long to visit to this beautiful place.
The scenery around Sam Roy Yod national park is stunning and the
peacefull , white sands of the beach at Phu Noi is a great place to kick
back and relax. On my last morning i got up early to watch the sunrise (can i add photos on here?) breathtaking.
no deckchairs, hawkers or jetskis... perfect...
The accomodation is also pretty good value.. i stayed at a place called
blue beach resort.(booked on asia rooms) was cheap and nice.
Ive spent a lot of weekends traveling from bangkok to Koh Samet or Koh
Chang as a get away...But i think il be heading back to Prachuap Kiri Khan
to check out some more places. Has anybody else spent time down that
way? id love to hear about it.

Yes, get the photees up! Can't remember but you might need 10 posts before you can upload them.

You might also like Bangsaphan (jump off the train at Bang Krut). Its a very quite spot, fantastic seafood and a rare unspoilt beach. Its about 25kms North of Chumphon.

I agree with the OP. Been to a few places in LOS and last Aug decided to go stay a few days in Hua Hin as we hadn't been there for about 5years. (and don't want to go back for at least another 5!!)
Went down to Sam Roi Yod and Prachuap for a drive - it was really good, went to the cave with the temple in it and had lunch in Prachuap. The whole stretch of coast was very quiet and laid back and the scenery was pretty good too, and lots of prawn farm around etc. The beaches are OK - no worse than Hua Hins. Certainly worth a visit and we'll go back and stay somewhere down that way in the future.

Your right Thetyim, been a few years since i was there. It was Bang Krut I meant, the one with the big temple on the hill. And yes if I think about it was 2 hours or so in the taxi to Chumpon.

The 300 mountain tops, Khao Sam Roi Yot also boasts a very nice cavern. Tham Phaya Nakhon as Ukan Mentioned.
It is reached by either following a trail across the point to the next beach where the ascent to the cavern starts or by hiring a longtail to land directly at this beach.

Quite a few dusky langurs in this area. I did manage to get some photos but they are basically crap.
Well, just to back the sighting up

When I went there the sun was much lower so it was too dark to get decent pictures. Great spot tho'

There were hardly any people around and on the walk back, I stopped for a rest and could hear BIG things moving in the jungle, not too far away. Now I realise theuy were probably langurs...not the tigers or gorillas I was thinking about. Funny how your mind builds monsters when you're out in the jungle on your own.

    I`ll second that Ukan.
I was on my own trekking in the Khao Sok National Park in Surat.
Left at first daylight to hit the extensive network of trails in the park.
After a few hours when it was heating up I heard the sound of cracks in the dense bamboo forest. Was that a tiger stalking me, looking for an easy albeit skinny meal?
Then I realized the heat would occasionally cause the dried bamboo stems to crack with a loud sound. Phew, now only 8 more lives to go

Spent a long weekend there with the family a couple of years back, very nice change of pace from BKK. I liked it far better than the more developed beach areas I have been to.

I've recently returned from Pranburi, didn't make it to Sam Roy Yod, but we hung around the beach at Khao Kalok & Paknampran- a trip report with a few phot's will follow. Well impressed by the place- nice scenery, prices are very reasonable and met some nice people. We'll be back.

    So it does.
What I also like about it is that it takes quite a bit of effort to get to it. I always find it a bit tame to step right out of a bus and there the seventh wonder of the world is right next to the busstop. You wont be lonely as there are hundreds of other tourists.
This place is definitely best visited outside of public holidays and weekends.

    It's only a 5 minute walk

I have had to trek through un-pathed jungle for hours to get to some caves here.
