View from Doi Pua Noi (?) onto Nan city.
    It really isn't very big:

There is quite a limited choice of restaurants, so I was happy when I found this open-air eatery on the outskirts, about 1 km from the airport on the main road:

For those who like to know what it's called and can read Thai:

It's green and airy inside - cosy. There's an upstairs as well.

    I ordered a Som Tam:

It was rather bland, but then, I did say 'not spicy':

The lunch snack with a beer came to 55 bt.

Who said Nan is an underdeveloped backwater?

We got solar powered yellow flashing warning lights now:

Not that any of the locals who pass everyday need reminding that there's a crossroads, but still...

Great thread Stroller. Hope to update mine on Loei Province in a couple of months. It would be good if some other members could do a thread of the province they are in, especially the Non touristy places.

No pics, but just to let you know that for Bangkokians who don't like flying, Sangkhlaburi in Kan province is very similar, and unlike Nan is easily doable in a weekend by road.

    Wait and see...

A day wouldn't be complete without a communal something involving a bottle of Lao Kao or two...

7, actually, I had the odd sip or 2 as well.
The water- and beer bottles are containers to host a liquid you wouldn't want to drink an entire bottle of...

Stroll, do you know how they measure the Lao Khao ?

There is a unit of volume which is smaller than a litre

It's almost the same as a pint here, a bit more than half a liter.

Loading the rods with their cargo.

    And off we go...

Bloody heavy and awkward to balance, I wish someone had taken a pic of me having a go.

    Finally to Thetyim's question:

A harvesting machine is hired for the day to seperate the rice from the shaff.

    ]

It is common for 2 or3 farmers to share the harvester for the task.

The fields are burned before the soybean planting begins:

With steel-tipped rod, holes are made into which the soybeans are sown by hand.
