Thread: Access to Khao Phra Viharn (Preah Vihear) from Thai side

Can anybody here confirm the current status? Is it possible to visit the temple from Thai side at the moment?

I was lucky enough to visit this beautiful place twice. First time from Cambodian side shortly after they finished the new road from Siem Riap (ca 2003?)
Second time from Thai side (drove up to the border from Ubon) mid 2007.

I would love to go from Thai side again and wonder if this is possible.
It seems the border conflict cooled down?

Friends of my wife living in Sisaket told her that the temple is still not accessible. I just want to confirm (generally having doubts about information coming from Thais)

So anybody living close by or went recently and could give some update?

Still closed. A real shame, as like you I visited years ago and loved it. I have been back twice since then but could not get any further then the car park and cliff area.

Yup, so sad. One of the most special and beautiful temple sites I have seen in Asia.
And the locals on both sides of the border, both Thai and Khmer made a good living from the tourists.
All wrecked just because of some greedy politicians and trigger-happy generals.

I witnessed the Anti-Thai riots in PP myself in 2003...not too much love in the air. But I do think that normal people just want to live in peace and do their business.
