    Chiang Mai impressions

Been to CM recently and took a few pics, and will be adding to it.

First, finding a place to stay, entering one of the little sub-Sois South of Thapae Gate, opposite Gecko's bookstore:

Kent Guesthouse, quite a funky place for 150bt/night.

    Reception area:

    A lovely inner court area:

    ...with plenty of doves:

The rooms are small and basic, but tastefully decorated:

    Even got Western toilets:

Main prob is, checkout 10 am sharp and the old Thai-Chinese git sits near the exit to collect the dosh for an extra day.
Last time I stayed there I did a runner when I didn't wake up until 11 something, as civilised people do.

As all my Missus and I want from a hotel are a (clean) bed and toilet, this would be ideal for us.

Judging by the photo's, the main problem is that its a total shit hole!

I guess you can expect much for 150 baht a night. I wonder if you take ur missus with you and does she think ur a tight bastard?

I happen to like the place.
When I go somewhere with the missus, we usually get something more upmarket and larger with TV and stuff, for me I prefer it very basic, suppose it's what I am used to.

    Yes, and no.
TD-lers tend to be shy about pics!
It's a really nice crowd up in CM, I recommend having a few cold ones with 'em.

Stroller has done something very unusual. I've lived in Chiangmai for going on 25 years and I don't recognise any of his photographs.

Heh, I recognize ALL the pictures. Except for the temply ones, those all look alike.

And Mad Dog pub won't look at you strange when asking for fried tomatoes with your breakfast.

Great shots of the Sunday evening market from Thapae Wall by the way.

Can you make out that street sign in the first pic?

Looks like a ten. It might be the soi that goes past the beer centre on loi kroh to suriwong road. Then again it might not. I don't think it's near where the gecko has his book shop.

I am sure you recognise the temples!
The one with the cross-form architecture houses a famous wooden Buddha image.
As all my Missus and I want from a hotel are a (clean) bed and toilet, this would be ideal for us.
The colour scheme of this particular guesthouse may not be to everyone's liking, but there is quite a choice in the up-to-200bt price-range in the area, some very good value, modern and clean with tiled floor and hot water.

Then again it might not. I don't think it's near where the gecko has his book shop.
It's the soi branching off opposite "Lost Books", which is also one of the Gecko's and just a little further than the "Gecko Books junior" on the continuation of Loi Kroh inside the old city.
