4th of July at D&G Resort

Since this was my last July 4th celebration here in Thailand for a year or two, I decided to get a little crazy. We ordered fireworks, food, drinks and about 125 people. Let's see what happens!

First thing was getting the tent and all the tables set up.

Even the Thai workers seem to know a holiday is just around the corner.

The family and local village people are starting to arrive.

Two powerful old men. Both of these guys in the past have been the heads of the village.

To be polite we always invite the ladies. The one wearing the USA t-shirt is an older sister of my wife.

My idea was just to have a party and go about life. However, the locals whom I have know for over 8 years, decided to thank me for being part of their community. Well, the free whiskey helped also.

This lady happens to be the master at traditional Thai massages. Just ask MtD.

Food was served to all the guests.

And of course, karoke was in the works.

This shot shows one of the richest ladies in the village. Care to guess which one?

The wife explaining, well something. Please notice Pepsi the guard dog from BKK is always on the watch.

No one wanted to sit underneath the tent at first. Luckily the local law enforcement was here to assist in any unruly mannerisms.

    Everyone seemed hungry.

Since I am heading back to the states, I am not entering the TD photo competition this year. However, I think this shot could have been a winner.

If only faces could tell a story. BTW, I see this lady in her bra at least once a week while upcountry. Check out hillbilly's gallery.

The kids always seem to be at these gatherings. You see the boy in the middle of pic? His mom has cancer and might have a year or so...

    Just having fun.

Not certain what she is saying.

How old is the young lady holding up the peace sign? I think that you will be surprised.

Close but no cigar. Actually, she is my mother-in-law. However, the lady in the middle is her older sister. Quite a lady. For some reason she believes that she has to have 10 million baht in her bank account when she dies.

I have seen her bank account and she seems good to go.

Her immediate family is constantly pestering her to release the funds now. She always says no!

As a side note she once volunteered to help out D&G Resort. When we said no thanks, she was flabbergasted.

Yea, I know you can't see the screen. But is does mention something about Independence Day.

This is the oldest brother of my wife. He is really not that mean, but two years ago he had a stroke at the age of 52. So his facial expressions don't always show what he means.

At least that is what the wife tells me.

Still eating and waiting for the fireworks to begin.

To backtrack just a hair, here is but one speaker for tonight's celebration.

On the banks of Nan River, the ground crew begins the firework framework.

The workers in our pavalion preparing some more food.

Since I am loved so much, here comes some more flowers. Actually, this young lady is a teacher in the 'mooban' and thanking us for helping her out from time to time.

The mother-in-law. After all these years I think she might start liking me...

In reality this lady represents the heart of Thailand. In typical country style this mother of 6 has raised sucessful children. Along with the fact that her husband has been a mean old drunk, she has done okay for her family!

Looks like a great party, HB> Wish I'd a been there

Shame to see you go mate, you have contributed more than your fair share and I still reckon the hose building thread was one of the best.

Enjoy yourself mate, you deserve it

Good karma out brings good karma in.

Great people shots HB. I have been watching your development there grow, and I just love the greenery you have introduced. I reckon you or someone has some background in horticulture or similar because it looks so well maintained and everything looks in place. Congratulations on a job well done. The atmoshphere there is reflected in those faces.

Thanks all. Now what is this old lady stumbling for? BTW, she sells beer cans for 2 for 1 baht. She loves to visit my place.

    Food is still left.

Talk about Thai hospitality. This guy is a friend of the family and the one responsible for setting up the music and singing for the night. What does he charge?

Nothing... He does like to drink and eat...

    And now for the fireworks.

Yes, this pic is crap. Did someone say battery? Oh, well. Nine blasts at B500 per, sounded like a good deal.

Karoke is starting to get serious.

    Will the flowers ever stop?

I have to admit that I was reduced to tears by the end. Sure I had provided the food and drinks, but these local people bought and donated much more than I could ever repay!

    Total cost? Close to B40,000.

    Value? Over B1,000,000

    I made money!

Beautiful story and a perfect thread. Hillbilly you're blessed in so many ways and I'm sure those blessings will continue. A green is on the way, but it pales in comparision!
