Sri Racha is a niceish little town, just this side of Chonburi. Unfortunately, the beach and the water are not very good.
Realistically, Rayong and Koh Samet are your best bets.
about an hour south of cha am you'll find cabana resort, chumpon.
it's twelve km nort of the city. beautiful beach, nice acommodation, and, the resort has a no beach chair/umbrellas/ vending policy.
the resort have some good activities as well. squid fishing and barbecue afterwards being my favourite. out on their big boat at night for three and a half hours. get back about 9.30 and then cook what you have caught. don't get any fresher than that. 400 baht a person.
in the may school hols they have snorkelling trips as well, to an island 12k off the coast. best snorkelling i've ever done.
it is a good place. 4 star acom. and cheap seafood restaurants along the beach.
just got back from phuket and stopped there ,again, on the way back.
i'll post some pics a bit later.
^ Sounds nice and quite a bit closer than Rayong. Is the water clear?
Funny, thats where I ended up last time. It was nice, clean water and quiet.Originally Posted by qwerty

2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, next to the beach 2000baht
foreachingme.
been there, chumpon, 5 times now. weather has been great every time.
i'm sure it rains there.tit. it rains everywhere
Its a damn shame that the andaman coast due west of bangkok has a border stopping direct access.
Without that border, pattaya would still be a village.
For once I agree with you, that part of the andaman coast must be perfect.
The easiest beach to get to is by traveling north not south. But you'll have to wait until just before songkran to enjoy the exposed prestine sandy riverbeds of the Maekong River. The water isn't crystal clear but clean enough to be able to swim in it. Locals will set up a few stalls selling food and drinks and it makes for a good day out.
I think Krabi is great.
yes i would say cha-am and hua hin. but if u go to pattaya, should spend time in the island nearby instead. pattaya not a great place for family trip i think.
Thetyim, do you have any contact info for the Hat Wannakon place? I'm heading down there at the end of the month. Thanks
