Well they got just about every rescue vehicle that Pattaya has at Pattaya Park rescuing people, ambulances are supposedly ferrying injured to hospital at this time, couldn't see any flames though, but one of the police reckons loads injured.

How does a park on fire injure people?
A quick video of the rescue vehicles outside of Pattaya Park.

Its a hotel full of ruskies.
So far there has been about 10 ambulances taking the injured to hospital, although I think most are being taken to hospital cos they shate themselves, they are using the cable car and the other thing to get people down from the roof.
Hopefully it is just an exercise, but I doubt it

They are still getting people off of the roof using the cable car thing, they can get about 10 people down at one time, they have a about 6 seater one that goes down to the beach, they have the single one that looks like you hang from it, plus the small cage which might fit 2 people, they have been doing this for over an hour and it probably takes 2 minutes for each car or hanging thing to get down, at the top are 2 restaurants and I suppose people were having lunch when the fire broke out.
This is a picture of the motors for the single person cable car and the hanging thing.

Can I make my smells like chicken joke here?
This is what Howard from Pattaya City News has to say;
An excercise was due to take place there today for local volunteers and rescue workers which will simulate a high-level fire at the Pattaya Park Resort. I am guessing this is what people have seen. If it is something else I will post it here soon...now checking!!!
Hopefully it was a test, although it took some of them about an hour to get there so it wasn't very well preparedplus they are still getting people off of the roof so they must be pretty pissed off by now.
^ Well one of my students is upset, because he was supposed to be going there at the weekend, but I told him it had burnt down.![]()
Well here is a recent picture of Pattaya Park, as you can see the tower is leaning over a bit, must have been a bit pissed when I took this one

LATEST NEWSTraining Seminar for Fire-fighters.
Wednesday 11th July 2007
On Wednesday a one-day fire-fighting training seminar chaired by Khun Ronagit, one of Pattaya’s clutch of Deputy Mayors, was conducted in the conference room of the Pattaya Park Resort.
The seminar was attended by members of Pattaya’s fire brigade who listened to information about fire safety techniques and treatment of fire-related injuries from a number of experts who came from as far away as the government departments of Prachinburi province as well as Sri Racha Hospital.

A year or so ago they carried out a similar exercise at Southend Pier. They held it at high tide and the fire boats were able to put out the 'fire' with seawater.
A month later a real fire broke out but at low tide and the fire melted the plastic water pipes carrying the only available water supply so half the pier was gutted.
Expect a fire to break out in a month or so at Pattaya Park in the motor room controlling the cable cars.
Lord, deliver us from e-mail.
Seems to be in memorial to the Royal Jomtien hotel fire 10 years ago when loads of people died because they locked the fire exits, of course they saved their reputation by changing the name of the hotel to Jomtien Palm Beach Hotel and it is filled with Russians nowadays.
SOURCEAt approximately 10:20 a.m. on July 11,1997, a fire began in a ground-floor coffee shop at the Royal Jomtien Resort at Jomtien Beach in Thailand, approximately 200 kilometers (124 miles) southeast of Bangkok. The fire killed 91 hotel guests and staff and seriously injured 51. It was reported that 11 volunteer rescuers responding to the incident were also killed when their pickup truck was involved in an accident, but details about what agency they might have represented are unknown. In addition to these fatalities, the fire, which started when LP-Gas leaking from a portable cylinder ignited, did substantial damage to the resort and caused significant business losses to the region.
When NFPA's Fire Investigations Department learned of the incident, it immediately contacted NFPA's regional manager in Thailand, Walt Futrell, who got permission through the Thai National Safety Council to conduct a joint investigation using the resources of NFPA, the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), the Bangkok Police Fire Brigade, and the Metropolitan Fire and Emergency Board of Melbourne, Australia. NFPA and Melbourne had worked together during the English Channel Tunnel fire investigation, and this was an excellent opportunity to collaborate again. With representatives from the Bangkok Fire Brigade, Futrell immediately headed toward Pattaya, and I met him there.
We obtained the information in this article through interviews with witnesses and government officials and through personal observations.
Pattaya didn't have any fire engines that could deal with anything over five storeys at that time, so some people jumped from like the 11th floor and found they couldn't fly, it took a few hours for them to get bigger fire engines down from Bangkok and that, the fire started when one of the idiot kitchen staff tried to change a gas cylinder over without turning the gas off.
SO where is the smoke/fire?
Pattaya park is a fuckin big swimming pool.

CHONBURI TIGHTENS UP HIGH RISE FIRE DRILLS TO REASSURE PUBLIC
Chonburi province, which earns 60,000 million Baht from tourism annually, is making strenuous efforts to reassure tourists and the public in general that they are capable of tackling fires in high rise buildings
A meeting to this end was held on 11th July at Pattaya Park Beach Hotel, chaired by Mr.Komsan Akachai, Deputy Mayor of Chonburi with Mr.Ronagit Akasing, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya City and other interested parties.
With high rises being built constantly, especially within the environs of Pattaya and the previous incidence of high rise fires and consequent loss of life, notably at Pattaya Plaza Complex, the authorities recognize the necessity honing up the fire fighting skills of the respective fire departments in the Chonburi province area and enlisting the co-operation of those in potential hazard zones.
A theoretical and practical drill, directed by Mr.Komsan Akachai, involving the fire departments of Chonburi and Pattaya City, Banglamung local government, hospitals and foundations from Chonburi province, together with other concerned individuals started at 10.00 AM, at Pattaya Park Beach Hotel The theory drill was from 10.00 –12.00, at the meeting room on the 4th floor, and the practical drill from 1 – 4 pm.
The scenario hypothesized a fire starting on the hotel’s 4th Floor and the resulting conflagration spreading rapidly. The hotel staff, being unable to control the fire, necessitated the calling out of the Fire Department to cope with it. It is theorized that co-ordinating the various skills and services of those involved will result in greater efficiency and build more public confidence.
