Rayong Guest house - great value.

Just spent 2 days here late last week.

Don't let the crap website http://www.saifaa.com/ put you off.

This place is the real deal and my family and I wished we had found this 5 weeks ago when we started out trip to Thailand and not in the last few days.

We will be going back and will stay for at least a week next time.

Now Rayong doesn't have much to offer and you really need a car to get around but for pure value for money and a relaxing holiday this is the place.

great views, great food and great value.

Owned by a swiss man and his wife you feel like you are living at home and have complete run of the place. The food is sensational and very cheap, the beer cold.

It is only 1 year old and the owner sacked 3 building teams before finally getting it finished and his attention to deatil as well as using good quality fittings really shows.

We paid 1,000 baht for our room with the huge bath and 700 baht (usually 900 they said) for the room next door with no bath for the kids.

Includes brekky from a set menu. Staff are great. Even got one bloke to drive our car down to the local carwash for a clean.

Considering I prefer buffet breakfasts because i am a fat bastard it was pretty bloody good.

Set menu of about 10 items but it came with juice and coffee etc plus heaps of freshly cooked bread from a swiss bakery in town.

No offense, but I found the report a little misleading. Sure, it's a nice facility, but its in an extremely shitty location. Why no shots of the ghastly beach, Rayong's famous smoke stacks and/or fish sauce factory just a couple of hundred meters down the road? I really doubt anyone who's familiar with what Thailand has to offer would want to spend quality time with their family in such a grimy industrial setting. When compared to what's available in Pattaya, or down the road in Lae Mai Phim, or Chantaburi, it's not really good value.

I've lived in Rayong for 5 years, and the beaches in the city area are disgusting. You've got to go out of the city, i.e. Ban Chang or Hat Mae Lang Phung before you find anything remotely resembling what most people want in a beach I would reckon. Despite what you were told, it's not safe to swim, and you wouldn't want your kids anywhere near the filthy polluted water and dangerous currents.

I wish the guy all the best, but he's built a nice touristy guesthouse in the most unlikely and undesirable of places. I believe he's trying to compete with the Kanary Bay Hotel down the road, who services mostly business and engineers who work in nearby industrial estates. Last time I was down there he had a bunch of Argentinian food on the menu because there was a large group in town for several months working on getting a gigantic copper smelter up and running. Yep, Rayong is that kind of place - quite possibly the most polluted province in Thailand I'm afraid.

But anyway, next time you're in town, give me a holler. There are some good eats around, both farang (including the best steakhouse I've encountered in Thailand) and Thai. Interesting little "historic" section with old wooden shophouses that's pretty cool as well.

Hat Mae Lang Phung before you find anything remotely resembling what most people want in a beach I would reckon.

Not quite sure exactly where you are Me-Mock, but the Hotel looks good.

I would say though that Hat Mae Ram Pheung is a fab beach, pretty isolated mind, but for a quiet, relaxing holiday, superb.

I used to work at said Copper Smelter, so they would have been Chilean but hey what's few thousand miles. I agree about the location but if I still worked in Rayong I might consider a long term stay. PMY is expensive if not on expenses etc.. and the Sar, well...t

I stand corrected. I met some of those dudes at the Kanary Bay happy hour. As I recall, there was also a group of Texans working at the plant who were living at the Kanary Bay, which is top of the line IMO for accomodation in Rayong.

Rode past the Saifaa the other day, and they are now offering boat tours around what's left of the adjacent mangrove forest. Will check it out soon.
