Russian falls to his death at condominium in Jomtien

    1st August 2011

A Russian Resident appears to have fallen from an apartment balcony following an evening of heavy drinking with friends.

In the early hours of Sunday, Police and Rescue workers were called to View Talay 1 Condominium in Jomtien and were led to the body of Mr. Alexander Korzhavin aged 39.

The condition of his body suggested he had fallen from a high floor and it was confirmed he was inside a room on the 14th floor when the incident occurred.

He had gone to the room with his Russian Girlfriend to meet a friend for drinks.

Just before he fell it is reported he vomited and had attempted to vomit over the side of the balcony.

He allegedly lost his balance as he did this and fell over the balcony to his death.

Evidence of the vomiting was seen on the balcony and evidence of heady drinking was found.

There were no signs of any struggle in the room and it was noted the victim’s girlfriend and female friend and occupier of the room appeared relaxed when speaking to Police.

It was also determined that Mr. Korzhavin’s visa in his passport had expired on 10th July.

The Russian Embassy is now working with the Police who initially reported the death as an accident with no evidence of foul play.

    Low Thai balconies

As you do when a friend has just fallen to their death.

Mind you, I will say, some of those Thai balconies are damned low. I was in the Top Marks hotel in Hua Hin a couple of year ago and went out on my room's balcony for a breath of 'fresh air'* - the balustrade just came over my knees. Thais are small people when compared to most Europeans. I thought then it would be so easy to fall, [or be pushed], over.

    * 'fresh air' - I know , I know - the phrase is not meant as an oxymoron but as a change of scenery.

Code height, everywhere in the U.S. for commercial guard rail is 42 inches. Residential is 36 inches. Max opening between balusters is 4 inches.

Yes, but what is it in LOS - Is there even a standard / code height?

I used to live on the 19th floor in Bangkok and I very very rarely ventured onto the balcony as the railings were very low. I would have had a good chance of falling had I gone out there whilst in one of my drunken stupors.

Highest floor I've allowed myself to live on has been the 5th, I prefer a maximum of the third and 5 was an exception..

    Cheers

That poor bastard picking up the brain matter only had small wrist length rubber gloves on. I'd have worn long arm length gloves and double up, ie. two pairs.

Someone told me that brain matter stinks like hell.

Those guys must have been going very fast and as it was 6am they must have been very very drunk indeed. The bloke who lost half his head was wearing a toy helmet...fat lot of good that was.

We had an incident a few years back where a young guy working for his Uncle was accidentally sucked into one of those massive fok off tree shredding machines.

Forensics wanted all the body parts recovered so some poor bastard had to get in there and scrap the poor buggers remains from within this machine.

Fuking hell, glad I was on holidays.

I ran over a cat in my car once, I watched it prancing about in my mirror for the last moments of my life and it reminded me of Bez out of the Happy Mondays..

    Cheers

A cousin of mine got drunk and fell eight stories a few months ago. He survived. Paramedics and Police on the scene didn't think he'd make it. He's been in the hospital since but he will walk again. Russians are pussies.

He's very lucky. If he hadn't of been drunk, the fall would have probably killed him. Better to fall from a height where you buy it than a lesser height that fucks you up for life. Used to hang the high iron when I was younger. Had a guy fall off a 6 ft step latter while we were building a railroad trestle over a river in Tennessee. He was on the ground with the latter when he fell. Standing on the the top. Hit his head on the corner of a beam, killed him. So you never know. Wasn't with him when it happened. I was up top. For a long time after that almost had to fight some guys to keep them from standing on the top of a step latter.

On a balcony at the Welcome Plaza in 2001 I slipped and banged my head so hard on the tiled floor that I lay there just waiting for a pool of blood to emerge from the back of my head as I lay there. I waited to die....I was very drunk.

I never moved for at least an hour, my mate had already passed out on his bed as it was almost 4am.

Finally I had the balls to feel the back of my head...no blood, just a bump. I rose slowly, and was fine...I did go straight to bed after a quick joint.

So are we all sure they fell, or were they pushed? Maybe they forgot to pay their gambling debts to their "friends."

A reason for his header off the balcony could be he was on a full on run to the balcony to kick out his guts and his momentum took him right over. I mean he was a big man, drunk, coordination gone(if he even had it before he was drunk).

What strikes me odd is that a great portion of these "Balcony" incidents seem to happen in the general Pattaya Area. Are they all knee high there or what?

I live on 14th floor in an older Condo complex and my balcony rail measures 44" tall.

The head is the heaviset part of the body so when he's leaning over the low railings he could have easily lost his footing on the tiled floor, he may have slipped on a bit of his own vomit, and also he's drunk as well.

    Sad end.
