^ Yep and pretty strong evidence to support. Missus just gave me the scoop from Thai news but I'll wait for the article to be posted.

Apparently the victim is pretty well connected herself and reveered as a do gooder, so this could get interesting. It just weak that if this were a working class person and not a doctor as the victim they would have absolutely no chance of justice.

Looks like the public is pretty up in arms about this, Thai forums etc. Maybe the internet is playing some sort of role in increasing awareness and doing at least something to lessen the corruption that holds this country back.

Don't be ridiculous, he is innocent, the witnesses have said it wasn't him even though it was, no doubt he will be promoted soon as he is obviously a mover and shaker in Bangkok and got away with this one even though he did it.

Maybe it was his wife who was driving like a maniac and the colonel is having to front for her? Might explain the witness's testimony which I don't think was an attempt to exculpate the colonel - the timing is too short for that - or of course he was just simply mistaken.

Either way, I'm sure justice will follow its course........ har, har.

Dawg I know you understand Thai, have you seen the channel 3 reports? Pretty strong eye witness testimony and they are all over this one. I gotta rely on the missus but she doesn't have the blinkers on and is probably more cynical than both of us. The driver was apparently the son of the guy who fessed up's boss. But yeah it could all be bullshit and the witnesses lying / covering up. Amazing how the guy walked. And what about the army guys arranging the false car? They should also be in custody. Foking circus.

    Colonel's confessions over 'accident' doubted

    Colonel's confessions over 'accident' doubted

    By The Nation
    Published on June 23, 2011

Police have expressed doubts about a colonel's confession that his car caused serious injuries to a female doctor.

"At first, he said he was just the car owner but later he said he was the driver too," the head of Metropolitan Police Division 1 MajGeneral Wichai Sangprapai said yesterday.

He found Colonel Saksit Phuklan's statement "unconvincing", adding that it contradicted some evidence.

"If his confession is made to protect the real culprit, the case will likely be dropped in the military court," said Deputy Metropolitan Police chief MajGeneral Amnuay Nimmano.

After seeing Saksit's photo, the doctor's mother said he was not driving the vehicle at the time it hit her daughter on June 4.

Saksit is serving as the director of the Office of the Army Comptroller's central division. If he is charged, he will be tried in the military court.

On Tuesday, Saksit turned himself in to police and said he was the owner and driver of the Nissan car that injured Major Dr Hathaiporn Imwittaya.

He claimed that after a dispute over parking manners, she suddenly jumped in front of his car, climbed on the hood and pulled off a windscreen wiper. He said he was so astonished that he braked suddenly and reversed, causing the doctor to fall off. He denied trying to run over her again.

"We have not yet pressed charges against him. We will focus on gathering evidence first," Amnuay said.

Police were examining both the vehicles of Hathaiporn and Saksit. A simulation of the incident will also be created.

Saksit's wife and daughter were present during the drama.

Hathaiporn is being treated at the Phra Mongkutklao Hospital. Her condition improved slightly yesterday but she still needs the help of a respirator.

Her Majesty the Queen yesterday graciously sent a basket of flowers and gifts to Hathaiporn via a representative.

"We are overwhelmingly grateful," Hathaiporn's mother said
"Slavery is the daughter of darkness; an ignorant people is the blind instrument of its own destruction; ambition and intrigue take advantage of the credulity and inexperience of men who have no political, economic or civil knowledge. They mistake pure illusion for reality, license for freedom, treason for patriotism, vengeance for justice."-Simón Bolívar

    Getting a Grip

    UPDATE : 22 June 2011

A news story that has captivated the nation as of late is that of Major Dr. Hathaiporn Imwittaya, now known affectionately as Dr. Muk, who was viciously rammed by a car in front of her own home and left in a state of coma.

The story goes that Dr. Muk, who's home is on a main road next to a popular restaurant, was forced to park her car parallel to a believed visitor to the restaurant and attempt to find the owner so she could enter her home. After informing the restaurant to locate the owner of the aforementioned vehicle, Dr. Muk entered her home to use the bathroom.

Before the doctor returned, the owner of the involved car had come to move his vehicle, only to be blocked in by Dr. Muk's car. After supposedly struggling to vacate the space, the driver left an angered note on Dr. Muk's car. However, when the doctor emerged, the car is believed to have swerved back and maliciously rammed her, sending her flying over 30 meters and even impaling her with the aggressors’ windshield wipers.

The news piece, with its senseless violence and sympathetic victim, has shocked the nation. People across the Kindom have poured in support and concern for Dr. Muk, praying that she awakens from her coma soon.

At the core of public interest in this incident however, is likely not just in the heartlessness of the attacker. On a more worrying level, it might just be that this story, in the minds of many, is a reflection of the anger and rage that has become the norm in Thailand. Is the average Thai now just a ticking time bomb of anxiety, waiting to erupt at the tiniest trigger?

Is the greatest fear invoked by this news story not that of becoming a victim but rather of becoming the instigator? Has violence and selfishness become part of present day Thai culture?

Where political groups, divided by color and creed, feel justified to use whatever strong arm tactics they can to express their views and achieve their goals, self-serving destruction and an every-man-for-himself mentality are becoming the norm. Nowadays, the flexibility and compassion, once a beautiful trait of Thai society, has given way to staunch rigidity and hot tempers.

Will the Thai people continue on their individual collision courses with one another, or will they get a grip before they leave the spirit of the Kingdom comatose?

Colonel Saksit says that Dr. Muk jumped up on his hood and she was injured when she fell off. Now we have witnesses saying that it was not Colonel Saksit driving the car. This story stinks to high heaven.

These people have their emotions in control from years of training and front-line confrontation with all manners of shite, not to mention dealing with life and death every day...

The Bangkok Post is reporting that various social network sites are saying that the colonel's son was the mysterious driver of the car that ran over Dr. Mok. Saksit is trying to protect his son by claiming to be the driver.

Wonder if they'll rope in some patsy as the "actual driver?" If the Queen has expressed an interest, someone will probably have to take the fall.

Think Moo Ham - note he didn't need to run away either. The Moo Ham story is a carbon copy of this one.

Typical deflective spin by Post Today and TAN.

The real story is that another well-connected Thai ass-hole knows he can do whatever he wants without any serious consequences. And THAT is a reflection of the Thai working-class's growing hatred toward the established class and their privilege systems. But nice try TAN...

No, I can't see her doing it either. You can see it with your own eyes if you want. Just watch the video. The car takes off, circles around comes back, runs into her, reverses, runs into her again, flicks off the headlights and fuks off. It's there for everyone to see. It's been all over Thai TV.

I rather think you are spinning it as well but through the prism of your own bias which clings to the rather quaint notion the poor oppressed working classes of Thailand hate the rich - a view as distorted as the belief they are capable of staging some sort of revolution to change the social order.

The poor do not hate the rich and privileged, they envy them and wish to a man to have the same power to abuse, to exploit and to make an awful lot of money with as little effort as possible.

    There is a difference.

This country is feudal but the serfs do not want equality, they want what the oppressors have and if by dint of chaos a populist movement were to gain supremacy they would treat others with as much contempt as the current bunch of sainted hiso chickenheads have for those beneath them.

Although I do agree the editorial is barking up the wrong tree. Yes, the Thai are on the brink of an anxiety driven madness but it is one they have been teetering on for ages and is founded on the unfortunate reality they are nothing more than an aberrant race congenitally incapable of emerging from the straitjacket of perennial adolescence.

Also, they are just a very stupid people.
