Thailand banned from 2012 Olympics football

Palestine will replace Thailand in the second round of Asian qualifying for the 2012 Olympics after the Thais were booted out for fielding an ineligible player.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) said today that Palestine, beaten on a penalty shootout by Thailand in the first round, had been awarded a 3-0 first-leg win.

Thailand had won the home leg 1-0 in Bangkok before being found to have fielded suspended player Sutjarit Jantakol, the AFC said on their website (Official Home of Asian Football).

The Thai football association (FAT) hit back at the AFC, accusing them of being unclear on the rules but their formal appeal was over-ruled by FIFA, according to the AFC.

The player picked up a one-match suspension for violent conduct at the Asian under-19 championship in 2008.

However, the Thai FA claimed Sutjarit had already served the ban because he was in the country's squad at the 2010 Asian Games, although he did not play.

Thai soccer chief Worawi Makudi pledged to fight the decision after the AFC countered that the Asian Games soccer tournament is run by the Olympic Council of Asia.

"It was the match commissioner's mistake and not Thailand's," Worawi told the Bangkok Post. "We will fight to the end."

Palestine will now play Bahrain over two legs on June 19 and 23.

The rules are pretty fucking clear. If a player is suspended, he can't play.

Should be an easy two-leg win for Bahrain if they release a few of their players from jail.

Thailand - Kingdom of unclear rules.

Maybe have the immigration department review them next time.

It perhaps goes some way to explain why many decisions made in Thailand by Governments are then ignored. They probably honestly believed that the rest of the world see decisions like Thai's see red traffic lights. Something that you can obey or not depending on how it may effect your day

Having said that West Ham United About 5 years ago cheated and played an ineligible player who called Tevez, did enough to stop them being relegated. The league decided that they would ignore this slight oversight because of West Ham's wonderful history.

So maybe their is hope for the Thai Team. Timing is everything and Septic Bladder probably is not in need of any Bht at the moment.( After world cup venues)

WORAWI CONFIDENT OF OVERTURNING DECISION AGAINST THAI OLYMPIC SQUAD | AFF – The Official Website Of The Asean Football Federation

WORAWI CONFIDENT OF OVERTURNING DECISION AGAINST THAI OLYMPIC SQUAD

    May 23, 2011

    BANGKOK (23 May 2011) –
Datuk Worawi Makudi, the president of the FA of Thailand (FAT) is confident that the decision against the Thai Olympic squad will be overturned.

He said this week that he has he has lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) in Lausanne to allow Thailand to continue their campaign in the 2012 Olympic Games qualifying round.

“We should know a CAS ruling in 10 days. In my opinion, there is a high chance of Thailand returning to the Olympic qualifying,” he said.

FIFA had earlier banned Thailand from their continued participation in the 2012 Olympic qualifiers after the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) claimed that Thailand had used a suspended player in a previous match.

Thailand defeated Palestine on penalties after a 2-2 draw over two legs. In the first leg in Bangkok, Thailand fielded Sujarit Jantakol, whom the AFC said had been suspended during an Under-20 match in 2008.

Thailand argued that Sujarit had served his suspension because he was in the Thai squad for the 2010 Asian Games even though he did not play.

The AFC then claimed the football tournament at the Asian Games was not sanctioned by the AFC.

Worawi said yesterday he had talked to AFC president Mohamed Bin Hammam who admitted the football event at the Asiad was supervised by the AFC.
"Slavery is the daughter of darkness; an ignorant people is the blind instrument of its own destruction; ambition and intrigue take advantage of the credulity and inexperience of men who have no political, economic or civil knowledge. They mistake pure illusion for reality, license for freedom, treason for patriotism, vengeance for justice."-Simón Bolívar
