Iran to Host 8th Asia Nano Forum

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran obtained a majority of votes of the participants in the 7th Asia Nano Forum (ANF) for hosting the next forum of this international event in Tehran.


The 8th Asia Nano Forum will be held in Tehran parallel with the 4th Nanotechnology Festival (IraNano 2011).

The 7th Asia Nano Forum (ANF) was held from November 8 to 9, 2010, simultaneous with the international workshop of Advanced Materials and Nanotech in Hanoi, Vietnam, with the participation of the member countries of Asia Nano Forum. The Asia Nano Forum members presented their latest programs and achievements in the field of nanotechnology.

The formation of a group in the field of environmental health and safety (EHS) was one of the plans studied in this forum. According to the plan, it was decided that joint activities must be carried out in this field under the supervision of Asia Nano Forum.

The 6th Asia Nano Forum (ANF2009) was held in Taipei, Taiwan, in October 2009.

Moreover, Asia Nano Camp 2010 was held at the same time with the 7th Asia Nano Forum, with PhD university students from the member countries in Singapore and Malaysia in attendance.

The Asia Nano Forum is a network organization established in May, 2004, aiming to improve research, development, and economic potentials of nanotechnology in Asia.

Among the member countries of this network, mention can be made of Iran, India, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, and China.

Thailand's science and technology minister to lead team to nano tech 2011 Japan

Thailand's Minister of Science and Technology H.E. Dr. Virachai Virameteekul and Prof. Dr. Sirirurg Songsivilai, Executive Director of National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC) will lead a team of officials from NANOTEC, Thailand Board of Investment (BOI), and Thailand Science Park (TSP) to Nano tech 2011 at Tokyo Big Sight to help boost research collaboration and promote nanotechnology investment.

Nano tech 2011 is scheduled for February 16-18.



"By 2015, it is expected that the nanotechnology market may be worth more than $2.4 trillion therefore, it is important that Thailand keep up with the nanotechnology trend if we are to be competitive" said Dr. Virachai.

"The Thailand exhibition at Nano tech 2011 will allow us the opportunity to meet with key nanotechnology players, inform them of available infrastructures conducive to business investment, and confirm our stance as an investor destination".

Prof. Sirirurg said that the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) will also use this opportunity to announce it has revised investment promotion schemes to also cover production of manufactured nano-materials or products from nano-materials. The aim of this initiative is to encourage more use of high-technology in Thailand's manufactured nano-materials. This type of business will be categorized as a top priority business which brings greater benefits to the country.

The investment schemes will include:

Import Tax Exemption for Machineries

Corporate Income Tax Exemption for 8 Years.

Corp. Income Tax Reduction for 5 more Years after Tax Exemption Period Ends.

Work Permit and Visa Facilitation for Foreign Specialists and Researchers.

The Thai delegation will also meet with representatives from Japan's top research agencies such as RIKEN, NIMS, and AIST.
