    • Online news:

The library building of the Prem Tinsulanonda school in Khon Kaen’s Nam Pong district was totally damaged by bombing late last night, police said.

The school is located near Prem Tinsulanonda military camp and the statesman museum in the northeastern province.

Gen Prem is the president of the Privy Council and a statesman.

Pol Col Phaipana Petchyen, chief of Nam Pong police station, said there was only one soldier on duty at the school’s front entrance door when the explosion took place last night.

He believed the bombers want to incite the situation as the school is a key symbolic place.
"Slavery is the daughter of darkness; an ignorant people is the blind instrument of its own destruction; ambition and intrigue take advantage of the credulity and inexperience of men who have no political, economic or civil knowledge. They mistake pure illusion for reality, license for freedom, treason for patriotism, vengeance for justice."-Simón Bolívar

You know my traditional thinking when conspiracy theorists come up with the theory that it was done by the Army / Government / Police / FBI / CIA etc is that they are talking crap.

Thailand certainly changed that naive view I had when younger....

I doubt it was a false flag. If it was an Army conspiracy to support the imposition of a new Division up there they wouldn't have chosen the Prem school - they would have chosen something that the public benefits from. I think it is further symbolic that the library was singled out though - the place where one would guess a lot of the propoganda is stored.
My mind is not for rent to any God or Government, There's no hope for your discontent - the changes are permanent!

KHON KAEN, Jan 8 – A bombing at the Prem Tinsulanonda School library in Nam Phong district, the northeastern city of Khon Kaen early Saturday morning but no injuries were reported.

The bomb shattered a glass door and windows in front of the library, and damaged parts of the tile roof and building, according to Pol Maj-Gen Nikom Incherdchai, Khon Kaen provincial police chief and Col Kusol Singhasai, 6th Cavalry Regiment commander.

Investigators said that TNT or C4 explosive was used.

Meanwhile, Pol Maj Gen Nikom urged police to speed the investigation as the incident was the third bombing at the school.

The school is 200 metres from Prem Tinsulanonda military camp.

Adm Pajun Tamprateep, an aide to Privy Council President General Prem Tinsulanonda, said that the statesman expressed concern regarding the incident. (MCOT online news)

It's nice that the Prem Tinsulanonda school and the Prem Tinsulanonda military camp are located next door to each other.

Yeah, I feel I've not done as well as I could have too. If I'd played me cards right, I could have had an enormously noxious influence on my country, induced military coups and deformed the growth of democratic institutions. I could have gone along with and got promoted in a series of corrupt military dictatorships like Sarit's and Thanom's. I could have sucked up to those above me and been sucked up to by those under me. I could have been Prime Minister for eight years without ever having faced a vote. Every year, i could have had the most powerful people in the land come and pay me homage on my birthday. I could have then gone into semi-retirement and had schools and military installations named after me that proclaimed my status as statesman. And I could have put on my party uniform and every now and then and had a coup. Just to make sure everything was the way I liked.

It's good to see that these sort of values are being promoted in today's Bangkok Post (8 January 2011). Put the kids in military uniform, that'll sort 'em out.

A lot them didn't have to suck up, they had to suck off. Or perhaps they got sucked off. Not sure who was pitchin and who was catchin, but it was fairly well documented that he was a dandy.

Blast at Prem school in Khon Kaen

    Published on January 9, 2011

A bomb exploded at the Prem Tinsulanonda School library building in Khon Kaen's Nam Phong district early yesterday, causing damage to doors and windows. No injuries were reported.

The incident, which occurred on National Children's Day, caused the school to cancel all its activities for the day.

The school director said he feared that more sabotage might occur if the programme proceeded.

The explosion went off around 3am. Police said the explosive had yet to be identified. The school is located about 300 metres away from a cavalry camp that is also named after Prem, the head of the Privy Council.

The damaged property including a black metal plaque on the wall of the library with Prem's signature and a motto: "One must return debt of gratitude to the Land".

Initial police investigations suggest the blast was not done with any intention to harm anyone but rather to "create a political situation" as the bomb went off late at night. Investigators initially suspected the bomb was TNT or C4 explosive, given the strength of the explosion. But these materials are not easily obtainable.

Police would also investigate if the culprits were the same people or group that early last year planted a bomb to destroy the school sign on two separate occasions.

Meanwhile Prem's secretary, Vice Admiral Pachun Tampratheep, said his boss was told about the incident and asked if anyone was injured. He said Prem had not given any instruction because police were responsible for investigating what happened.

Asked if the bomb was related to plans to establish a third Cavalry Regiment, which has been considered by the Defence Council recently, Pachun replied that people should not think that far ahead.

Second Army Commander, General Thawatchai Samutsakhon, said that he received a report about the bomb but they would leave it to police to investigate because the attack was not directed at Thai troops.

No, he was born in Songkhla. But his home (principal private residence) has been in Korat for many years. You might recall that he whisked a certain important family up there during the young turks coup attempt. Also here's a more recent news report about his Korat residence.

Home town to me is where you / your family are from, not necessarily where you were born in some examples of course, I would certainly never refer to my home town as Bangkok....

Nam phong is more than 30 kms north of Khon Kaen. This is probably the most exciting thing that has happened there for the last 50,000 years or so.

I have an ex from there, unfortunatley she won't have been injured as she had obviously never been in a library in her life

Nor me. But the place where I was born isn't the place I'd call "home". To me it's where "you" (yourself) call home. His home has been Korat at least since the 1970's.

    Gen Songkitti denies P.Thai claim
    • Published: 10/01/2011 at 01:13 PM
    • Online news:

Supreme Commander Songkitti Jaggabatara on Monday rejected claims that the explosion at the Prem Tinsulanonda School library in Khon Kaen on Saturday was a show of dissatisfaction with the army's plan to make the province home to the new 3rd Cavalry Division.

The new 3rd Division has long been wanted by the Privy Council president.

The claim was made by the opposition Puea Thai Party.

"No, they are not linked," Gen Songkitti said.

Gen Songkitti, a former cavalry officer who played a role in pushing for the 3rd Cavalry Division, said the claim was imaginary.

He said there had been three previous bomb attacks at the library of the school, established and funded by the Prem Tinsulanonda Foundation. The first two were in March and October last year and the third on Jan 8.

"Authorities should speed up their investigations so they can come up with a clear explanation," Gen Songkitti said.
