    Pheu Thai fires 4 MPs

The Pheu Thai Party has put up a sign at its headquarters, announcing it has fired four of its MPs, Matichon Online reported.

Wuttichai Kitithanesuan (Nakon Nayok), Piyarat Muensaen (Roi Et), Nathee Sutinpueak or Krung Sivilai (Samut Prakarn) and Jirapan Limskulsirirat(S Prakarn) have been fired, the sign says.

The sign says Wuttichai and Piyarat were hostile and always violated policies while Nathee and Jirapan have declared their intention to leave party.

"To prevent public confusion the said individuals won't b allowed to do anything on party's behalf," the sign says.

"Party lawyers have also been instructed to take further appropriate action."

Going Where the Grass is Greener

    UPDATE : 31 August 2010

News stories about Members of House of Representative jumping ship and switching parties have become common in the news in the past few weeks and will possibly become a frequent occurrence in the near future as the current government has little more than a year left in office, if not less. The situation has made party transfer preferrable as MPs look to maximize their activity before having to risk not being elected back into Parliament.

Party transfer is not much different from changing jobs, where people seek out the best benefits. A key difference however is that MPs must conform to the Constitution and other legal regulations when changing their allegiance.

The political atmosphere of Thailand however, has given little time for MPs to consider proper procedure as they rush to get their fill of party perks. Parties themselves, especially those in the coalition, are also compelled to draw in members by any means as they battle to retain Parliamentary power bases. All in all, the movement of MPs in recent weeks has been less than cordial.

The latest movers are Pheu Thai Songkhla MP Jirapun Limsukolsirirat and Natee Sutinpuak from the same party who have chosen to join Bhum Jai Thai. Both have said that they felt stifled in their old digs and were unable to act in the “best interests” of their constituents. The two openly said that they hoped to be able to acquire more funds for public development projects in Bhum Jai Thai, signifying that Pheu Thai party has allocated little of its budget to “the people”.

Back to the legal aspect of the transfers however; despite the nobility of Jirapun and Natee's reasonings, they also imply that members of the government coalition somehow have greater access to government spending. No where in the charter does it state that public representatives aligned with the party in power should be granted more funding for development. Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has even expressed some shock over the statements, which moved him to query Bhum Jai Thai about the situation and asked it to not allow such comments to surface again.

Hopefully, this blink-and-you'll-miss-it slip up by the exiting Pheu Thai MPs will not be overlooked by either the PM or the people.

Bangkok Post : Three MPs defect to Bhumjaithai

    Three MPs defect to Bhumjaithai
    • Published: 31/08/2010 at 06:46 PM
    • Online news: Local News

Three MPs - two of Puea Thai and the other of Puea Pandin - on Tuesday openly announced their intention to defect to the Bhumjaithai Party.

The Puea Thai MPs are Natee Suthinphuak or Krung Srivilai and Jiraphan Limsakulsirirat of Samut Prakan province. The Puea Pandin MP is Ratchanee Polsue of Roi-et province.

The three were welcomed at a Bhumjaithai meeting chaired by party leader Chavarat Charnvirakul, who presented them with party jackets.

Bhumjaithai spokesman Supachai Jaisamut said the party believed that after the House of Representatives passed the 2011 budget bill the political situation would return to normal.

Meanwhile, at the Puea Thai Party headquarters, party spokesman Prompong Nopparit introduced to the press Vorachai Hema and Salinthip Sukwatchaisadom, saying that the two had been picked by the party to run in the next general election in Samut Prakan, replacing Mr Natee and Mr Jiraphan who had announced their intention to defect to Bhumjaithai.

Mr Prompong said Mr Natee and Mr Jiraphan would no longer be allowed to conduct any activities in the name of the Puea Thai Party.

Jatuporn Prompan, a Puea Thai MP, said the two MPs had been lured to defect to Bhumjaithai with local development funds. Their defection would erode the people's faith in them, he added.

Another Pheu Thai MP Invited to Join Bhum Jai Thai

    UPDATE : 3 September 2010

The Bhum Jai Thai Party's attempt to persuade another MP from the Pheu Thai Party to join its camp has failed, as the MP has refused the invitation.

Deputy Interior Minister and a senior Bhum Jai Thai executive, Boonjong Wongtrairat, disclosed that his party is in the process of persuading another Pheu Thai MP in Samut Prakarn, Pracha Prasopdee, to join his party.

Earlier, two MPs from the opposition Pheu Thai Party, Natee Suthinphuak, a former veteran actor widely known as Krung Sriwilai, and Jiraphan Limsakulsirirat, who both represent Samut Prakan province, had agreed to transfer to Bhum Jai Thai.

As for an allegation made by some Pheu Thai MPs that the Bum Jai Thai Party has lured the MPs away the party with offers of a large budget to their respective constituency, Boonjong said the opposition party has the right to investigate the matter.

In the meantime, a Pheu Thai MP in Nonthaburi, Apiwan Wiriyachai, said he has yet to talk to Pracha about the rumor of his possible transfer, but he believes all MPs have the right to decide on the matter.

Apiwan also noted that he will not be surprised if Pracha decides to defect, as it is not unusual in the political field.

He also insisted that the transfer of several MPs during this period has not been prompted by the rumors about health problems of ousted former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Meanwhile, Pracha responded that he will definitely stay with his party, and that he has no plan to join the Bhum Jai Thai Party.

He also disclosed that Thaksin has called him to ask about the report of the transfer of the two Pheu Thai MPs. He said he told Thaksin that the two have already joined the coalition party, but that it is possible the two may later return.

So, when exactly does Newin take over officially?

Quite a move forward for the country; good moves by the PAD/army/Dems, achieved quite an improvement...

Pheu Thai officially expels 2 MPs : National News Bureau of Thailand

Pheu Thai officially expels 2 MPs

BANGKOK, 8 September 2010 (NNT) – The opposition Pheu Thai Party has officially resolved to oust two MPs for defying party resolutions.

Pheu Thai Party Spokesperson Prompong Nopparit announced today his party's executives and MPs agreed to terminate memberships of Saraburi MP Second Lieutenant Porapol Adireksarn and Sakon Nakhon MP Joomphot Boonyai. A total of 179 votes supported the expulsion with 2 abstentions.

The legal team of the party is drafting a report of the decision for Pheu Thai Leader Yongyuth Wichaidit who will sign and forward the mater to House Speaker Chai Chidchob and the Election Commission within 30 days.

Both Second Lieutenant Porapol and Mr Joomphot failed to vote in compliance with party resolutions in the last censure debate and have been banned from entering the party's head office. The two have also been found to be taking part in the political activities ofother parties.

The Pheu Thai Party recently ostracized four MPs for failing to comply with party resolutions and participating in other parties. Several Pheu Thai MPs have defected away from it most to the coalition Bhumjaithai Party.
