BANGKOK (Reuters) - When Tassaporn Ratawongsa, a 42-year-old radiologist arrived for work at a private Bangkok hospital recently, she expected to see her patients.
Instead, she was greeted by police who arrested her, searched her apartment and copied her laptop's contents. Her alleged crime: "Inputting into a computer system false information that undermines national security and causes public panic."
She was the fourth person accused of spreading rumors about the health of Thailand's revered monarch, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, that sent stock prices tumbling in mid-October.
The arrests threw a spotlight on Thailand's Computer Crime Act, a controversial and wide-ranging law passed by a military-installed legislature following a 2006 coup.
Authorities say it is meant to close legal loopholes and tackle crimes in cyberspace. Critics label it a "witch hunt law" against political dissidents with provisions so vague they could be used against any web surfer.

This brings up some interesting stuff, ok they may have had a search warrant but arrested her at her place of work, were they scared of knocking on her door? Normally Thai police try to do arrests outside of any building, why is up to you, ie they would rather you come out of your home and arrest you than bang down the door as is the usual in normal countries, so you have to wonder did the court actually give them a search warrant or did they do the arrest and then search because of those circumstances without a warrant, your fuked either way.

Technically I believe yes but solicitors and courts dance to their own tune.

They make the rules up as they go. Just like a bunch of kids trying to act like grown ups. The ironic thing is that they either dont know or dont care what anyone who is not Thai thinks. Its just the way they do things in Thailand.
I always remember that often repeated phrase when trying to debate Thai issues with a Thai, --- " You no understand, you not Thai."

Its not that Thais lack intelligence or the potential for objective thinking, -- its their culture of corruption and deceit that is holding their country back.

Aree Jiworarak, head of Thailand’s information technology supervision office is cited as saying that:

“Since 2007, Thai authorities have blocked almost 20,000 Web pages deemed insulting to the monarch…”. Aree says that his “war room” is staffed “around the clock by a team of bilingual civil servants and young professionals, tackles ’systematic attempts’ to undermine the throne…”. While Aree admits that court orders are required to “shut most websites,” for those deemed “offensive to the monarchy, his office approaches Internet Service Providers to block access before getting an official court order.”

    Must apply to individuals too

It's going to fun to see how they will actually prove this in court. Will his nibs medical records be open for scrutiny
